Heartbreaker Kangana & Heartbroken Imran – Katti Batti in UK cinemas on 18th September

Brace yourself for a love story with a twist, ‘Katti Batti’, a roller coaster ride of emotions and quirky momentscoming to cinemas on 18th September 2015.  Released by UTV Motion Pictures, this non–linear love story marks the second release this year for the two time National Award winner Kangna Ranaut (Queen) and heartthrob Imran Khan (Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu). This film also marks Director Nikhil Advani’s return to the rom-com genre after his 2013 crime-thriller D-Day.

Produced by Siddarth Roy Kapur under the banner of UTV Motions Pictures, Katti Batti is an anti-love story with Imran Khan performing the role of Madhav Kabra (Maddy) and Kangana Ranaut as Payal. The story revolves around Maddy and Payal’s live-in relationship for 5 years until a sudden turn of events when Payal leaves Maddy mid-way.

Upon a fleeting first watch, the promo of Nikhil Advani’s upcoming “Katti Batti” seems engaging enough as the director is known to extract brilliant performances from his actors, sending his audiences on an emotional, cathartic journey.  It’s a young romance that broaches the “daring” contemporary topic of pre-marital cohabiting along with giggle-worthy one-liners and dialogues that will make you chuckle.

This is an offbeat romantic film revolving around Imran Khan as Madhav Kabra (Maddy) and Kangana Ranaut as Payal. Madhav is a slightly geeky young architect that does not seem to know quite what to do when he meets the free spirited Payal who has no qualms about throwing caution to the wind.

The characters have many different depths and layers around them. Maddy comes from a very strict middle class family from Pune, while Payal comes from an affluent family in Delhi and has extremely different ideas of marriage, love and parenthood. Imran Khan’s character has extremely structured views on life until he falls in love with

Payal, who turns his life topsy turvy with her refreshing outlook on things.

With all the usual hit film elements are ticked, Kangana and Imran’s refreshingly eclectic pairing is an added bonus and is expected to steal the show – yet again with this film. Katti Batti personifies a new age relationship, breaking up and making up in the world of today, the sort of contemporary romantic relationship never seen before on Indian celluloid.

Katti Batti releases internationally on 18th September 2015 through UTV Motion Pictures.

Ekta Kapoor and Imran Khan Bury The Hatchet!

Imran Khan on The Front Row - Star Plus UKImran Khan and Ekta Kapoor have proven their mettle time and again individually. The dynamic duo first came together for the much hyped OUATMD but the camaraderie faded soon with much media speculation. Soon after the release of the movie, news of their relation going sour floated around where the two stated that they would not work together again.

As they say nothing is permanent in Bollywood, in their case all it took was one face to face encounter for differences to evaporate. Ekta & Imran bumped into each other at a party. Says a source, “There were no fireworks or cold vibes. They saw each other and in minutes they were engrossed in a long conversation in a corner of the room.”

A few days later they met again for tea and as old friendships revived; so did old projects.

While working for OUATMD, Imran and Ekta had discussed one of  Tigmanshu Dhulia’s script. The duo was very passionate about the script and thought it was an incredible script. At that time Ekta was keen to make it and Imran wanted to do it with similar zeal. The script eventually came up in their conversation and they both realised that they were still equally enthusiastic and passionate about the script.

Imran Khan confirmed the news saying, “I’m very glad that Ekta and I met face to face and cleared up our issues. I really wish we had done it sooner. Tigmanshu’s script is excellent, and it would be a shame for his film to suffer because of our disagreement. I’m really looking forward to the three of us working together.”

Ekta shared his sentiments , “I am extremely fond of Imran and thankfully we have ironed out our differences. When I heard Tigmanshu’s great script I instinctively knew that Imran was perfect for the character. He’ll do great justice to this role and we are so excited to commence this project.”

With most things in place now for Tigmanshu, he is yet to finalise the girl playing the main lead. The project is supposed to go on floors this September 2015.

Interview: Kareena and Imran talk about ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in London (12)Bollywood royalty Kareena Kapoor Khan and Imran Khan flew down to London to promote their upcoming film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, directed by Punit Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar.

Synospsis: Sriram Venkat (Imran Khan) is the most shallow guy on earth who doesn’t value relationships, family, friends, life or the country. Not necessarily in that order. Because he couldn’t care less about the order. This makes him the clear ‘black’ sheep of the family.

At some point this shallow man begins to narrate the story of the crazy relationship he shared with Dia Sharma. His ex-girlfriend. A firebrand social activist who wanted to change the world. An attraction which was physical initially but then got emotional and finally veered into complex territories resulting in a clash of ideologies and mindsets which drove them apart. Bitterly. Sriram believed that charity begins and ends at home. Whilst Dia felt that you have to be the change that you want to bring about.

However, Sriram realizes that he is not over Dia and still loves her and that she is the best change that ever happened… and will happen to his life.

But Dia has moved on and is now in an obscure village in Gujarat called Jhumli.

Sriram lands up in Jhumli to take his love back… But Dia refuses to return with him. Frustrated and faced with the ultimate challenge, Sriram realizes the only way he can impress upon Dia to come back with him is by making Jhumli independent. By helping others… something he is just not accustomed to do. This is the biggest irony of his life.

What he doesn’t bargain for are the various road blocks he might face, in the face of politics, corruption and clueless villagers. But the biggest hurdle he faces eventually is himself. His own moral fabric which isn’t upto the challenge he has undertaken.

Will Sriram be able to win back his love? Will he be able to bring about the change in Jhumli as well as in himself??? This is the story of a boy and his struggle to cross a bridge… a bridge that bridges the love and gap between two people.

The film is set to release in UK cinemas on 22nd November and the two stars caught up with Bollywood reporter Sunny Malik to talk about the film and much more…

Imran, you have flown in from New York where you were promoting Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. How did it go?
Imran: It was mad. It turns out New York is not on route from Mumbai, you go way past into a different time zone (laughs). I slept through all of the interviews and just when I got into it, I had to leave for London.

Kareena, you were in Beirut for Arabs Got Talent and your fans there were pretty excited to see you perform.
Kareena: We had lots of fun. They were very warm. I think that is their culture. They are loud and warm, which is nice as they are very much like us.

Imran: Basically, they are Indians (laughs).

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in London (5)You were honoured at the House of Commons by the British Government and Asian Sunday Newpaper. How did that go?
Kareena: It was great. I am thankful to all of my British Asian fans who made this possible. I am sure they won’t let me down with my new movie as well.

The title of your new film, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, is quite unique. How did that come about?
Imran: I honestly don’t know.
Kareena: I guess, because we are both fair. What else could it be (laughs)?
Imran: The script that Punit had written was called Jhumli. That is the name of the village where Kareena goes in the film and I follow her. The script that I signed on was called Jhumli and when we started filming, we had no title.

Kareena: I am just glad that the film is not called Jhumli (laughs).

Your director Punit Malhotra was an AD on Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Imran worked with him on his directorial debut I Hate Luv Stories. How was your experience working with him on Gori Teri Pyaar Mein?
Imran: Obviously, it was very different for Kareena from the first time she worked with Punit. At that time the power equation was a little different (laughs).

Kareena: So you agree that you guys bullied me?
Imran: That is not true. He was a clapper boy on that film and now he has been bumped up slightly (laughs). Punit and I were basically two love sick puppies running behind Bebo. We were both running around after her seeking her approval and affection (laughs).

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in London (7)You both have worked with Dharma Productions in the past. How would you describe your association with Karan Johar’s production house?
Imran: I Hate Luv Stories came to me when I was sitting at home for eight-nine month without work and then Karan offered me the film. I owe him a lot.

Kareena, you are sort of an in-house heroine for the banner.

Kareena: It’s like home turf for me. Karan Johar is like a brother to me. Apart from working together, we are mentally connected. He is my brother, best friend and confidante. We go beyond having a professional equation.

I was surprised to see the heroine of Punit Malhotra’s second film as a social activist. What was your reaction when you first heard the script?
Kareena: Dia is a social activist but don’t forget it’s a Karan Johar film so it as socially activist as it can be (laughs).

Imran: Don’t expect Satyagraha (laughs).
Kareena: I mean she dances on Chingam Chibake and Tooh. She is a modern girl of today. She has her ideologies and it’s a lot of fun.

There is a funny dialogue you say in the film about the Tomatino Festival that has become famous in Bollywood after Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara.
Kareena: That entire scene is actually quite good.

Imran: You have seen the funny part of it. It’s actually a very intense and dramatic scene.

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in London (9)Imran, you usually ask directors to make changes to their scripts before you sign their films. Did you do the same with this film?
Imran: It was a long journey. Punit’s initial draft of the story was of two guys who go to this village to woo these two girls back. Funnily enough, he wanted me and Saif Ali Khan to play the two roles. Imagine what fun that set would be. At a very early stage, it wasn’t working for him so he cut out the second storyline and made it about one boy and one girl. I gave Punit a hard time. I really liked the first half which is more of a rom-com but didn’t really like the second half where my character goes to win Dia back to a village. I didn’t understand the whole point about the bridge. I was settling for less but Punit stuck with it and made it better.

The audience now looks at films differently. People constantly want to see something new. How is this film different from other rom-coms you have done?
Imran: That is what the second half of the film adds. I swear, if Punit had listened to me and just made the film in the space of the first half, it would have been a very mediocre film.

Imran, in I Hate Luv Stories your character was largely based on Punit Malhotra. How much of him will we see in this film?
Kareena: Sriram is completely like Punit.

Imran: I am pretty much playing the same character again. Sriram is not that different from Jay of I Hate Luv Stories. There is always a lot of Punit in his films (laughs).

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in London (3)Kareena, who was his inspiration for your character?
Imran: There was a girl…

Kareena: Yes, I think, there was a girl whom he actually went after to.
Imran: Maybe not to a village but I feel that there was a girl like that (laughs).

The music is being liked by audiences…
Kareena: I like Shake that Tooh and Dhat Teri Ki. They are both wild numbers and fun. You just want to get up and shake your tooh.

Were you apprehensive about dancing to a song like Tooh because of its lyrics?
Kareena: No, it’s a sweet song. The atmosphere of a Punjabi wedding is like that.
Imran: People are taking these things too seriously.

On ‘A date with Ek Main aur Ekk Tu’, Imran you said that you wanted to compare your ‘Tooh’ with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena will decide who has a better one. Did that ever happen?
Kareena: Oh, we still have to do that.

Imran: I think, Saif is freaking out because he knows he can’t win it. He is backing down from the challenenge (laughs).
Kareena: Don’t be so sure. You both can’t win to me (laughs).

Imran-Sonakshi in a future Balaji film?

Sonakshi and ImranAt a recent closed door screening of Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Doobara held in Mumbai, senior Balaji officials were incredibly impressed with the fresh and crackling Imran-Sonakshi chemistry that is being depicted on the silver screen for the first time.

So much so that Ekta Kapoor spoke to her team members immediately about casting them together in a future Balaji film.

Says a source, “Balaji is producing a large number of films with well-known directors and has decided to cast the duo in a romantic film. The team is floored by their romance in the film.”

Ekta confirmed, “We were amazed at the sparkling chemistry between Imran and Sonakshi. They are at amazing ease with each other. They are the new romantic pair created and we would definitely like to repeat them in one of our future productions.”

Directed by Milan Luthria, the films also stars Akshay Kumar and Sonali Bendre. It releases in UK cinemas on August 15.

Imran Khan impresses Milan Luthria in OUATIMD

Imran Khan in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Doobara

Director Milan Luthria is mighty impressed with Imran Khan. So much so that the filmmaker has paid him a huge compliment — by likening his commitment towards work with that of his uncle Aamir Khan.

While shooting a fight sequence for ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara’ (OUATIMD), Imran suffered a bad neck injury. But instead of asking for a break, he continued to shoot.

Says Milan, “We were shooting a scene where he (Imran) had to fall and tumble three-four times on the pavement and roads. No matter how you do it, it’s going to hurt. It was only two-three days after shooting the scene that Sonakshi (Sinha) mentioned that Imran was in a lot of pain. That’s when I realised that he was trying his best to hide it.”

Adds Milan, “Imran has impressed me with his dedication and sincerity. Despite multiple changes in schedules, he was co-operative and willing. He is going to surprise everyone with his exemplary performance in the film.”

Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh’s “Tayyab Ali” recreated for “OUATIMD”

Imran and Sonakshi in Tayyab AliBalaji Motion Pictures has pulled out yet another ace from its armoury.

The second track that is due to being released from the forthcoming “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara” is the evergreen “Tayyab Ali Pyaar Ka Dushman” from the yesteryear’s cult film, “Amar Akbar Anthony”.

Leaving no stone unturned to deliver a chartbusting soundtrack, Balaji has gone ahead and secured the official rights to recreate the original, which had been picturised on Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.

The new track from “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara” features Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha and was shot over 6 days on an elaborate set built at Mumbai’s Film City. It has been choreographed by Raju Khan and rendered by Javed Ali. It is expected to go on air before the start of Ramadan.

Imran plays a Muslim (Aslam) for the first time in a track that promises to be his first major ‘mass’ number.

The first track, “Ye Tune Kya Kiya”, composed by Pritam, rendered by the famous Pakistani qawwal Javed Bashir and shot on Akshay Kumar, Imran and Sonakshi, was unveiled recently and swiftly shot up the charts by emerging as the No.1 track on Youtube India.

Imran Khan plays Muslim character for the first time

Imran Khan in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Doobara

Imran Khan essays a Muslim character for the first time in the forthcoming “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara“.

Conventionally seen as an urban lover boy in his earlier films, his first-ever mass role of Aslam promises to make him as much a favorite in the Muslim community as his uncle (Aamir).

The actor will sport a Firoza, a blue stone that Salman Khan has been wearing for three years now. While Salman wears his Firoza embedded in a silver bracelet, Imran will wear it in a different form.

Wearing the Firoza stone is holy among Muslims and Imran feels good about owning one now. He is believed to have sourced it from Bhopal, his hometown.

In some scenes in the film, he will even be seen in a Pathani suit. While Akshay Kumar plays Shoaib, Imran’s character is the former’s protege, who is torn between duty and love.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again - UK Release

Shohaib’s only confidantes are his best friend Javed, who oversees his empire for him and his former lover Mumtaz (Sonali Bendre) who is now his closest friend. He often visits the poor Muslim areas where he grew up and it is on one such visit that he meets Aslam (Imran Khan). He takes him under his wings and gradually Aslam becomes one of his favourites.

Shohaib wants to gain full control over Bombay and this is met with resistance from two existing gang lords – Vardha and Arun. Vardha and Arun join hands with a cop – Sreenu, whose only purpose in life is finishing off Shohaib’s reign, for which he gladly joins hands with the gang lords.

While Bombay continues to be the object of their fancy, Shohaib stumbles upon a young actress – Yasmin (Sonakshi Sinha). He is immediately taken in by her freshness, beauty and candor. Slowly, but surely his attraction towards Yasmin goes onto becoming an obsession. This creates a rift between Shoaib and Aslam and results in the ultimate showdown between the mentor & protégé.
