Q&A: Kangana Ranaut on ‘Katti Batti’

Katti Batti 2
Katti Batti is a modern day romance that traces young architect Madhav Kabra’s (Imran Khan) love for the free-spirited Payal (Kangana Ranaut). They make for a perfect couple until a sudden turn of events creates an unanswered distance between them. What follows is a series of events that tests the fate of their relationship.

Katti Batti is in showing in UK cinemas now.

Read on to find out what Kangana Ranaut has to say about the film.

How did you feel playing such an emotional character, like Payal in Katti Batti?
Playing a character like Payal was so overwhelming. I remember, after a shoot I used to cry every night. My mother visited me and I even cried with her thinking about it. It is absolutely the most intense character I have ever played in a film.

How would you describe Katti Batti?
Katti Batti looks like a rom-com, but it is very different from a typical rom-com. When people will watch the film they will see a much deeper story. The intensity of the characters in the film is astounding.

How was it playing Payal in Katti Batti?
I have to say it was the most penetrating role I have ever played. I couldn’t eat or drink while shooting certain scenes so I could get into character.

How was working with Imran Khan?
He is a very good natured person. I always call him ‘Mr Goody Two Shoes’ because of his great reputation in the film industry, and he is also quite predictable. Imran is also a very sophisticated and stylish man. I find his sleek sense of style so interesting, which is very rare in men.

Would you like to date someone from the same industry?
I always believed it was difficult to date an actor, and not entirely healthy either. Now I am convinced it is not a good idea. You would not want to start a competition with the person you were dating. It is an awful feeling when the person who is supposed to protect and support you, subconsciously starts to compete with you.

Kangana_KattiBattiYou are today reigning Bollywood. People say it’s lonely at the top. How do you see it?
I think the best part about my success is that it came so late – that matters a lot how you feel as a person. If it had been 8 or 9 years ago when I was still a teenager, I believe I would have become like my character in Fashion. At twenty-eight, you become very balanced as a woman and that kind of affects your outlook about life. My success happened now that I am so balanced and mature, which matters as well. You don’t really want to wish for success at a very young age, as success is very hard to deal with at a young age.

Have you ever thought of writing a book, maybe an autobiography?
There are so many things I would love to write about, not just about my life but about how I have a spiritual understanding of characters and how I am able to get into their minds and actions. I would like to share this with the world. I also love poetry. I would love to write about my life and my struggles, I think it could be useful and inspiring to other young girls.

So are you planning to slow down anytime soon?
Not right away but I believe after 2-3 films I can take it a little easier.

Heartbreaker Kangana & Heartbroken Imran – Katti Batti in UK cinemas on 18th September

Brace yourself for a love story with a twist, ‘Katti Batti’, a roller coaster ride of emotions and quirky momentscoming to cinemas on 18th September 2015.  Released by UTV Motion Pictures, this non–linear love story marks the second release this year for the two time National Award winner Kangna Ranaut (Queen) and heartthrob Imran Khan (Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu). This film also marks Director Nikhil Advani’s return to the rom-com genre after his 2013 crime-thriller D-Day.

Produced by Siddarth Roy Kapur under the banner of UTV Motions Pictures, Katti Batti is an anti-love story with Imran Khan performing the role of Madhav Kabra (Maddy) and Kangana Ranaut as Payal. The story revolves around Maddy and Payal’s live-in relationship for 5 years until a sudden turn of events when Payal leaves Maddy mid-way.

Upon a fleeting first watch, the promo of Nikhil Advani’s upcoming “Katti Batti” seems engaging enough as the director is known to extract brilliant performances from his actors, sending his audiences on an emotional, cathartic journey.  It’s a young romance that broaches the “daring” contemporary topic of pre-marital cohabiting along with giggle-worthy one-liners and dialogues that will make you chuckle.

This is an offbeat romantic film revolving around Imran Khan as Madhav Kabra (Maddy) and Kangana Ranaut as Payal. Madhav is a slightly geeky young architect that does not seem to know quite what to do when he meets the free spirited Payal who has no qualms about throwing caution to the wind.

The characters have many different depths and layers around them. Maddy comes from a very strict middle class family from Pune, while Payal comes from an affluent family in Delhi and has extremely different ideas of marriage, love and parenthood. Imran Khan’s character has extremely structured views on life until he falls in love with

Payal, who turns his life topsy turvy with her refreshing outlook on things.

With all the usual hit film elements are ticked, Kangana and Imran’s refreshingly eclectic pairing is an added bonus and is expected to steal the show – yet again with this film. Katti Batti personifies a new age relationship, breaking up and making up in the world of today, the sort of contemporary romantic relationship never seen before on Indian celluloid.

Katti Batti releases internationally on 18th September 2015 through UTV Motion Pictures.

No Film with Aamir Khan yet – Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut (2)Kangana Ranaut has clarified that she hasn’t been offered the Aamir Khan starrer Dangal.

Aamir Khan and Kangana Ranaut have formed a mutual admiration club of sorts. While Aamir was all praise for Kangana’s work in Queen, she too has admitted that she is an Aamir admirer. Kangana is also like him, choosy about her scripts and is allergic to award functions. During his appearance on Koffee with Karan, Aamir also said that he finds Kangana very sexy.

Kangana returned the compliment in an interview saying she found mamu Aamir sexier than nephew Imran. After watching Queen, Aamir took to Twitter to praise Kangana’s work. The actress has also expressed her desire to work with the actor. It was probably all of this that fanned the rumours of her playing Aamir’s daughter in his next movie Dangal. The movie based on wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat will be directed by Nitesh Tiwari.

According to reports, Kangana was to play Phogat’s daughter Geeta. The actress is amused by these reports because she hasn’t signed the film. She clarifies, “Dangal was never offered to me. I’d love to work with Mr Khan sometime soon, but we aren’t working on Dangal together,” says Kangana.

Though Kangs isn’t a part of this movie, there’s no denying the fact that it would be great to watch the two powerful performers act together.

Kangana Ranaut plays Vidya in ‘Shootout at Wadala’

Kangana Ranaut in Shootout at WadalaWith the sensational news about the dazzling cameos of Priyanka Chopra, Sunny Leone and Sophie Choudry in Shootout At Wadala, having created a splash, the film’s fourth female dimension comes in the form of the heroine, Kangana Ranaut.

Kangana plays the role of Vidya who is Manya Surve’s (John Abraham) love interest. While there is no mention of Vidya in S. Hussain Zaidi’s best-seller ‘Dongri To Dubai’ (from which a part of the film has been inspired), director Sanjay Gupta learnt of her existence through his interaction with the Police while researching for the film.

Reveals Sanjay, “The Police know about Vidya. So do the residents of Mumbai’s Dadar and Agar Bazaar areas where she is folklore. Many believe that she betrayed Manya, which led to his encounter. No one knows what happened to her after Manya’s death.”

On his decision to cast Kangana, he adds, “The role of Vidya was written originally with Vidya Balan in mind, as we needed a powerhouse actress to pull off the film’s emotional dimension. When it didn’t work out, we opted for Kangana, as she is a fantastic actress. She has really stood her own amid the men in the film and delivered a knock-out performance.”

Interestingly, Kangana’s de-glam cotton-sari look, make-up and hair have been styled on the lines of Shabana Azmi’s character from ‘Arth’. Concludes Gupta, “She’s done something she hasn’t done before.”

Eros International will release the film in UK cinemas on 3rd May.

Kangana Ranaut – Bollywood’s most Stylish Vegetarian

Kanagana Ranaut - UKMaking ‘going green’ look ever so fashionable, Kangana Ranaut, having shifted base to Mumbai has now turned vegan, a decision that was quite a challenge for the style icon, especially since she was raised as a non-vegetarian, born and brought up like anyone from the sub-degreed Himachal region.

Apart from its positive effects on her health and fitness, Kangana also finds it to have a calming effect on her, especially since her schedule is packed with films and brand commitments.
