Photos: Deepika Padukone stuns at #MetGala 2019

Deepika Padukone walked the red carpet for Met Gala 2019 yesterday in New York City and fans couldn’t keep calm as they took to Twitter hailing the couture queen.

The actress wore a Zac Posen custom gown of pink lurex Jacquard, embellished with 3D printed pieces meant to resemble embroidery for the Met Gala, carrying a much like Audrey hairdo with a headband to complete the theme- based look where she looks every bit gorgeous.

Fans across the globe are going gaga over the beauty and the social media is abuzz as #DeepikaPadukone saw a strong India trend.

The theme of the Met’s 2019 Costume Exhibition is “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. The theme comes with its exaggerated plethora of costumes that put on an exhibition by global stars who attend the gala. The exhibit is inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

Deepika Padukone first appeared at the Met Ball in 2017 during the release of her first Hollywood flick, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, opposite Vin Diesel. Dressed in a slip-dress by Tommy Hilfiger along with a flower crown, Deepika set the graph right for the theme of the year which was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between dedicated to the Japanese designer, Kawakubo, with her sartorial choice.

Walking for the second time last year, Deepika looked ethereal in an Atelier couture by designer Prabal Gurung. Making a statement with her draped number, the actor accessorized her look with siren red heels, dainty diamond jewellery and bright red pout. The theme for last year’s Met Gala was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’, a tricky one to follow yet Deepika flawlessly aced the couture silhouette.

Featuring in the list of the most influential global icons, Deepika Padukone sure knows how to give us the dose of drama along with her omnipresent poise. In the presence of other attendees like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Bollywood’s leading star surely has put India on the global map with her sartorial choices and presence across the world- walking like a queen!

Renowned for her starring role in films including Piku, Padmaavat & XXX: Return of Xander Cage, the actress has been involved in the creation of her figure from the outset and has even donated the glamourous gown that she wore at the 2016 IIFA Awards.

Expressing her thoughts, Deepika Padukone said, “As a little girl, I was a very curious kid. For me, purpose is something that is very important. However big or small, whatever I am doing in my life, purpose and why we do what we do is very important to me. After I got a call from Madame Tussauds London I was really happy and excited but over a few days, I thought what is the purpose of this? Why are we doing this, or what is it that my fans will remember me for, remember my figure for, what is it that I would like to leave behind?”

Deepika continued: “The cause of mental health is very close to my heart. It is something that I am extremely passionate about. I said that’s it, I would like for my fans, when they see my figure, I hope it reminds them of someone who did something for the cause of mental health, who worked towards creating awareness and destigmatising mental illness. I hope that it gives people a sense of upliftment and a sense of hope. I hope that message comes through.”

Aamir Khan launches Manjeet Hirani’s book ‘How to be a Human’

Penned by Rajkumar Hirani’s wife Manjeet Hirani ‘How to be a Human’ was launched by Aamir Khan at an event in Mumbai.

Superstar Aamir Khan has worked with director Rajkumar Hirani in ‘3 Idiots’ and then ‘PK’, both of which went on to become superhit films. Now Aamir launched a book based on the dog which the Hirani’s adopted from the ‘PK’ sets.

Aamir Khan, Manjeet Hirani, Rajkumar Hirani along with Indian journalist Anupama Chopra were present at the book launch.Even Aamir shared his experiences with his pet and how his pets are fond of him.

Aamir Khan shared, “I think they are wonderful, It never occurred to me until Manjeet called me up she wrote to me about the book and when I read the title of the book. It is so true that we can learn so much from our pets. Because they are really very less judgmental than we are. We are very judgmental as people, we are judgmental on many things for many reasons on which we really don’t need to be. Well as animals are also judgemental but in very few things, they are concerned about their survival. So agar koi Deer jaa raha hai toh woh judgemental hoga Sheer k liye, K yeh yaar mujhe kha jaega (laughs)”

Manjeet Hirani spoke at length about her book and her experiences with her pet Buddy Hirani.

Manjeet shared, “The major thing that I’ve learned from Buddy is, you know when there are guests in the house and Buddy always wants to be there and great all the guests at the door, and some people who don’t like dogs, so we ask Buddy to leave but when you ask him to leave he just doesn’t want to budge He’ll sit like a stone and is you try to do something he will get too ferocious. So then we get some chicken sticks and we send him back but when the guests are gone we call him back and he comes back with the same energy as if kuch hua he nahi tha. He has forgotten that and he doesn’t show attitude, which we all do.”

Manjeet Hirani is an airline pilot, influencer, and speaker. In her book, Manjeet has written about attachment, parenting, and karma, among other things. She shows how having a dog in the house can alter your perspective and change the way you experience life.

How to Be Human is a charming and heart-warming book that, with its light touch, will make you look at life from a less cynical standpoint.

“It’s an amazing honour to be asked to be featured alongside icons of the Indian film industry,” the actress commented. “I have really enjoyed working with the team and am delighted with the end result. I can’t believe how detailed and accurate it is. It is just like looking in a mirror in 3D,” said the 31-year-old actress.

Speaking to press at the launch, Katrina revealed that she never had the chance to visit Madame Tussauds during the few years that she lived in London. She also expressed her desire to have her wax figure placed next to Hollywood hearth-throb Johnny Depp’s wax figure.
