The fans loved her in ‘Kick’, and since then there has been no looking back for this Sri Lankan beauty. It is for the first time that Jackky will be seen in a double role. There has been enough detailing done in order to keep her one look distinct from another one.

Filmonix to release ROY in UK cinemas on 13th February

Life imitates art and the lines between fiction and reality are blurred in 2015’s most stylish and engaging romantic thriller, ROY, releasing on 13th February, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar and Freeway Pictures and distributed in the UK by Filmonix.

Bhushan Kumar’s upcoming romantic thriller, ROY, has created quite a stir; a film that has been much-anticipated by the industry as well as the fans. The trailer crossed three million views on YouTube in just three days of its release followed by the songs, which have gained popularity across all media platforms.

Ayesha - ROY (1)After giving audiences several musical hits such as Aashiqui 2 and Yaariyan, ROY is said to be another feather in this renowned company’s hat. Debutant director Vikramjit Singh presents a handsome and accomplished lead cast comprising Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez in a slick, romantic thriller, set against a sweeping backdrop of international locales. Ankit Tiwari, Meet Bros Anjjan and Amaal Malik have created a beautifully haunting soundtrack to complement the air of onscreen mystery and suspense. Sure to be lauded by critics and a new generation of Indian cinema audiences, ROY marks a dynamic new turn in the Indian thriller genre.

While Ranbir Kapoor plays the title role, Arjun Rampal plays the role of a director and will be seen in a completely different look in ROY. The two are paired with Jacqueline Fernandez for the first time in a film. Jacqueline, who plays a double role, is seen romancing the two most dashing leading men of Bollywood in ROY. The actress will be seen in two different looks: elegantly glamorous and vivaciously hip, respectively.

Arjun and Ranbir in RoyT-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar says, “We received a fabulous response to the theatrical trailer and the first song Sooraj Dooba Hai, which is now a party anthem for the season, followed by Tu Hai Ki Nahi and Chhitiyan Kallaiyan. The rest of the songs from the album have an individuality of their own and help the story go forward. The trailer helped us build enough curiosity on the characters each actor plays. Where Arjun is seen in a role and look he has never tried before, Jacqueline plays a double role for the first time and both are poles apart; while Ranbir plays a dynamic title role and he is supportive to the film and Vicky.”

Synopsis: ROY is the greatest thief ever known to man, having pulled off impossible heists in every part of the globe. ‘Kabir’ is a highly successful filmmaker. His first and second movie, Guns Part 1 and Guns Part 2, were based on this thief called ROY. Each part had a new heist, each ending was a different one. As the movie starts, Kabir Grewal is all set to go into production of his next movie, Guns Part 3, and the third part is also about his favorite character ROY. Will the story change this time? Will Roy finally reveal his face to the world? Will he mess up his heist or will he be caught?

Roy releases on 13th February, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar and Freeway Pictures, distributed in the UK by Filmonix.

Interview: Ileana D’Cruz speaks about ‘Happy Ending’

Happy Ending UK ReleaseIndian film actress Ileana D’Cruz will be seen in UK cinemas this Friday, 21st November 2014, in Happy Ending. Having worked in Telugu and Tamil cinema, the actress made her foray into Hindi cinema with 2012 blockbuster Barfi! opposite Ranbir Kapoor and alongside Priyanka Chopra. The 27-year-old actress has since worked with the likes of Shahid Kapoor and Varun Dhawan and is extremely excited about her new venture, produced by Saif Ali Khan’s Illuminati Films.

Happy Ending is directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. and also stars Govinda, Saif Ali Khan, Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The much awaited rom-com will release in UK cinemas through Eros International in UK cinemas.

Here the actress talks to Sunny Malik about the movie, working with Saif Ali Khan and being friendly with Kareena Kapoor Khan…

How are you feeling about your upcoming film, Happy Ending?
I am extremely excited because the film is very different from the films I have done in the past. Barfi! was completely different and Main Tera Hero was a wholly commercial film with a little over the top humour. Happy Ending is very modern. If I may say so, it has very intelligent humour. It is more casual and conversational. The acting that was required of me was very different from films like Main Tera Hero. It was strange and took a little while as it was very new to me. I am excited because I loved the way the film has shaped up. Happy Ending, I think, will appeal to Indian and overseas audiences.

How did the film come about for you?
I was very excited when I was offered the film because I have loved the films Illuminati (Saif Ali Khan’s production house) has produced. They have made very slick comedies and shot them beautifully. They promote the films really well too. The music is very important to them. I was looking forward to the doing the film without knowing the story. When I heard the script, I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t expecting such a good role.

IleanaTell me more about your character…
The heroine in the film is at par with the hero. It’s a very sassy role and not a typical Bollywood damsel in distress heroine. My character is an author who writes novels but doesn’t believe in them. She doesn’t believe in love or happily ever after. She is the type of girl who asks the guy just before they make out, “You aren’t going to fall in love with me, right?” There were times where I felt that I was not doing much as my character keeps a straight face a lot of times. It was a bit nerve wrecking. I am glad I waited and chose to do this film.

Saif takes a little time to open up. How was your experience interacting with him in the beginning?
I had this stupid impression that he was going to be exactly like I have seen him in his films. That was quite stupid of me considering I am part of the film industry. I was expecting a chirpy goofy guy. He was quite normal and very polite. I kept to myself on the sets because I figured that he is reserved and doesn’t like chatting too much. Unfortunately, he took that as me being incredible formal on the sets. One day we ended up talking at one of those parties we had on the sets. He came up to me and asked me why I am so aggressive and defensive? Ironically, I became very defensive and questioned him what was wrong with him as I am not defensive at all (laughs). We had a nice conversation and we just suddenly broke the ice. We got to know each other and got comfortable. It was a very good working relationship. I find it hilarious when he gets angry even if it is for two seconds. I didn’t take him too seriously, so it was good (laughs).

He also compared you to Rani and Kajol…
I was quite shocked when he said that. I take is as a very big compliment. I don’t know if I agree with him or not. They are brilliant actresses.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, who has a cameo in the film, said that you have become friends while filming in the US…
I didn’t have any scenes with her unfortunately but she spent some time in Detroit with us and we got to know each other. We bumped into each other during breakfast and it was a really nice atmosphere. We just chatted and she is aver normal person I love that about her. She has no hang-ups, is simple and I think, she liked the same about me. We got along really well. I don’t know if we are friends because we haven’t spent as much time together. We are definitely very fond of each other as people. She has handled herself very beautifully considering the many year she has been in the industry. I think, I was expecting a different person and was surprised that she is a such a lovely person. I can’t say we are friends but we are definitely friendly.

Happy Ending is out in UK cinemas on Friday, 21st November 2014.

Interview: “It’s the films that you leave behind that matter” – Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif is once again the female in a Yash Raj Films production. The British Indian actress stars in the highly-anticipated Dhoom:3 opposite Aamir Khan.

Also starring Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Jackie Shroff, Dhoom:3 hits UK cinemas on 20th December 2013.

Speaking to BollyNewsUK about the film, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya (Viktor), Kaif talks about her role, the songs in the film and much more…

Yash Raj Films was looking to cast a fresh face for Dhoom:3. They were rumoured to have considered big names from Hollywood for the female lead. Then it was announced that you were part of the franchise. How did it all happen?
Dhoom 3 UK Release (10)I know that they were looking at fresh faces in the beginning. I don’t know how or why but one day I got a call from Aditya Chopra and Viktor  and they wanted me to hear the script of Dhoom:3. They told me that the role of the girl is primarily a dancer and circus performer and of course, the love interest of Aamir in the film. They also said that it is mainly about the performance in the film as an acrobat and that I should I have a look at the script and get back to them if it interests me. When I heard the script, I thought that it was a fantastic and very strong story. Dancing is a very strong passion of mine and I thought that I may not get another opportunity of performing with some of the best dancers, technicians, choreographers and circus performers in the world. I just decided to take it on.

Dhoom:3 is set in Chicago. How was it like to film there? Did you shoot extensively outdoors like Abhishek and Aamir?
Most of my scenes are actually indoors. I did have a twenty-day schedule in Chicago which was a lot of fun. It is beautiful place to shoot in and really peaceful. A lot of the main part of my character happens inside the circus for which we had a set in Mumbai.

Dhoom 3 UK Release (13)YRF always cast you as a Non-resident Indian or someone from London. Is that a conscious decision and similar for Dhoom:3?
Well, I don’t think it’s about me when they cast me for such roles. It’s just that a lot of their films are like that where you have Indian characters living abroad. Dhoom:3 is set in Chicago and I am an Indian settled there. There is nothing much we can do about that (laughs).

‘Kamli’ is a Punjabi song in the film you perform on. The lyrics of the song are quite difficult to understand…
They are very hard, I do agree with you on that. You know, there was a lot of discussion about this. Adi and Viktor wanted the song not to be a frivolous dance performance, hence a song with easy lyrics. They wanted the lyrics of Kamli to be very contrasting with what I am doing in the song. Honestly, I said exactly what you said, that the lyrics are hard to understand. But they said that that is what they wanted out of it. They wanted it to be a contrast between the lyrics and performance. I think in that sense, they have achieved what they wanted to do. The attitude and the dance moves are very western and aggressive and the lyrics are very ethnic, almost poetic in a way. It also makes the song new in a way. Let’s see what happens.

Aamir sings a fantasy song in the film for you. We haven’t seen an anti-hero do this in the Dhoom series before. How much of a love story will we see in the film?
The song Aamir was referring to is called Junoon which is an amazing song. Actually, it is one of my favourite songs in the movie. I really wanted them to show the promo and I really wish they would. They (YRF) have a marketing strategy in place that they will only release 30 second promos. They are trying the theory of only showing little tidbits of everything and allowing the audience to come and experience the whole film in the cinema. I think that it’s a very interesting idea and for a film like Dhoom:3 there is a lot more that you will see when you watch the entire film. I believe that it will be exciting for audiences around the world because they will be seeing everything for the first time.

Dhoom 3 UK Release (3)You were going to the gym daily to prepare for your role in Dhoom:3 while you were shooting for Jab Tak Hai Jaan in London. Did you have to prepare a lot?
There was a lot of training because I don’t think that I am very athletic. If I am going to play a circus performer, I have to look the part. I have to look strong and be able to do these things.  I had to be strong enough to do the circus stunts in the song Malang, which you will see in the film. All of my stunts are done without wires, by me on my own. I had to put in a lot of training.

That is why people call you very hardworking. You sometimes don’t like being called that all the time. What would you prefer to be called instead of hardworking?
No, I am okay with anything. Actually, that’s good. I am perfectly fine with that. I think that every role demands different kind of work. In Dhoom, it’s very easy for me to talk about the work because it’s physical. You can talk about four hours of rehearsal or four hours of training. But in a lot of other films, you do character workshops. That is more difficult to talk about but is equally as hard.

Dhoom 3 UK Release (14)What is your character in the film all about?
I don’t know how much of the story line I should really give out. I would like for people to come and see the film and figure out my character and experience the film and take away from it what they can.  I can tell you that my character works at the circus which Aamir’s character runs. Her name is Aaliya and she is the lead performer. That is how the two meet. The rest of the story is part of the film.

You have now worked with the Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan in YRF productions. Does it matter to you who your co-star is?
You are obviously going to be excited to with actors like Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir because they are such legends. Also, working with a good actor always helps you. I really believe that. At the end of the day, it is about working in a good film. It’s the films that you leave behind that matter. For me, it’s always the film that comes first and everything else is an added bonus.

Dhoom 3 UK Release (19)How was your experience working with the hilarious Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra?
They are extremely sweet and funny boys. Every time we were interacting with them, they would make us laugh, especially Abhishek. He is a darling and a very nice person to be around.

Some people have said that the film is similar to Now You See Me. What should UK audiences expect from Dhoom:3?
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen Now You See Me so I can’t help you there too much. The best thing to do with any film, not just my films, is to go in with no expectations. That is what I do when I go to watch movies. If you watch the promo and it interests you, then go and watch it. When you come out, then you can make a judgement. The best thing in life is not to have expectations. You will be pleasantly surprised if you like the film and won’t be let down if you have no expectations. Having said that, Dhoom:3 is not similar to any film. It’s an amazing script. A huge amount of effort has gone into making it and I think that hard work always pays off in the end. Now we just hope that the audience likes it and that’s all we can do.

Interview: “The UK is like home to me” – Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Deepika Padukone is on a high after the success of Race 2 and has her hands full with projects opposite the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor.

Her latest release is Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani also starring her ex-beau Ranbir Kapoor. After playing the sultry Aleena in Race 2, Padukone will now be seen as Naina Talwar in Ayan Mukherji’s second directorial venture, out in UK cinemas this Friday.

Naina Talwar is a simple, good-natured and extremely focused girl. Frustrated by the restrictions she needs to put on herself to achieve her dreams of being a doctor; she impulsively decides to go on a trekking trip to Manali to give herself a break.

Through the film, Naina transforms from the restricted claustrophobic person she thought she was to a free-spirited woman with a newfound love for herself and comfort within her choices. She is strong and dependable and stands firmly for rooted family values.

In a chat with Bollywood Reporter Sunny Malik, the actress talks about Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and much more…

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (1)There was a lot of speculation as to why you cancelled your London trip to promote Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Would you like to clarify?
Ok. So what happened is that I was filming (for Chennai Express) in Munnar. It’s a hill station in the south of India near Kerala. I was supposed to finish that schedule and come back to Mumbai on the same night and then leave for London. But it rained and we had three days of non-stop rain where we were shooting. Our schedule was delayed by three days and I could’t leave a unit of two hundred fifty people waiting there. I had to sacrifice the London bit of the promotions to finish my commitment.

Do you feel it has been really difficult for you to manage everything because you are working on several projects simultaneously?
Honestly, now that that phase is over, I can definitely say that it was very, very difficult. But more importantly, more than physically, it was more mentally and emotionally draining for me. I am glad that the particular phase is over now, more or less as Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is up for release and I have also wrapped up Chennai Express (also starring Shah Rukh Khan) which will release on 8th August. The only thing I am focusing on right now is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela.

You have always said that you wanted to work in a Dharma Productions film. What was your reaction when Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, produced by Karan Johar, was offered to you?
I was absolutely over the moon. I remember it started when Ayan Mukherji, the director, called me one night and said that he wants to take me out for dinner. We went out for dinner, just the two of us. I had been hearing from people that he was considering casting me but unless you actually hear from your director, you can never really believe these things. We discussed this project over dinner. He said that he was writing this film and was writing it with me in mind. He said that his ideal cast would be Ranbir and I and I was more than happy. I was sold. I told him that I will do this film for you. That’s the amount of faith I have in him as a director. I have known him from the time he was doing Wake Up Sid, actually even before that, when he was narrating the film to Ranbir. I have known him very closely throughout that entire process. I had decided back then itself that I would like to work with him if he ever offered me a movie. The script came to me much later. Of course, he gave me a one line of what Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will be about. There was no bound script at that time.

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (4)Ranbir said that he wasn’t aware that the character was written keeping you in mind. There was also a lot of speculation that other actresses were being considered for the film. Was that amusing?
Of course it is amusing. But you know where you stand for a particular project. You know whether you have been approached or not. You know the other names that are floating around. So of course, one finds it amusing but at the end of the day, you have to have faith in yourself and in your director. I mean, it makes for good speculation in the news but at the end, the film belongs to the person who eventually does it.

Do you agree with Ranbir’s statement that it’s easy to hide behind characters and difficult to portray a more real person in films?
I know that he has been saying this in his interviews. For me that was a surprise because I prefer doing roles that I identify with. I feel that it’s a very, very interesting observation but even though he says that he finds it difficult, I really enjoy doing these roles. For me, Naina Talwar is me. I was the reference point. I did not have to research. I did not have to observe anyone else. I just had to be me.

Is it not scary that people may find out more about the real Deepika Padukone through such a role?
I don’t know if it’s a scary thing or not. In that sense, you have to trust your director. You have to believe that he will present you in the best manner possible. But no, not at all as I am very comfortable with the person I am. Of course, I have my flaws and insecurities but I was more than happy to use myself as a reference point for this character.

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (3)The film is also shown from your side of the story. I think the story is narrated through a diary your character wrote. Can you tell us more about that?
I don’t really want to get into how the story plays out and reveal more about the screenplay but the film is not just about the love story between me and Ranbir. It is about these four friends, how they meet, separate and meet again. It’s also about your relationship with your parents.

The film also looks very commercial and razzmatazz which is very different from what Ayan Mukherji has done before. Were you concerned or surprised?
I wasn’t concerned at all. As far as the film goes, even though it looks very commercial it is very real and the scenes are pretty much in the same space how Ayan had directed Wake Up Sid. The only thing that took me by surprise were the songs. I couldn’t believe that Ayan wanted to use such commercial songs in his movie. I had expected the songs to be slightly different a little bit like Wake Up Sid’s music. The trailer has been cut in a certain way where the film may seem very commercial and glittery with a lot of dance and music. But the film as a whole is very different from that.

Eros International is also releasing the film in new territories like Russia and Israel. Your film, Cocktail, restarted the trend of Hindi movies in Russia. How does that feel?

It feels really special. I never thought that my movie would restart the trend of Hindi movies in Russia. When I think about Hindi films in Russia, I think about Rajnikanth or Raj Kapoor movies. It feels great that Cocktail started the trend again and now Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will release there too. I hope they show the film the same love.

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (2)As the film is being released in new territories, do you feel that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a film that will be appreciated by non-Hindi speaking audiences in the west and has the possibility of “crossing over”?
See, I don’t like terming films as commercial, art films or films that can cross over. I feel that if a film is well made, it will be appreciated. I also feel that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a universal film. I don’t feel that Hindi movies are just for a Hindi speaking audience. Our films are today reaching a wider audience because they are relatable and are being liked by people not understanding the language we speak in our films.

What are your expectations from the UK audience for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani as your films have done better here than Ranbir Kapoor’s films?
(Laughs) I’m grateful that my films have done well in the UK. The UK is like home to me and I miss being there. I started my journey right in Leicester Square, London at the premiere of Om Shanti Om. Then I have shot for films like Love Aaj Kal, Housefull, Desi Boyz and Cocktail in London and in the UK. It’s a special place for me and it will always remain so. I hope the audience in the UK enjoys the movie and show the same love to the film as they have to some of my other films.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is released in UK cinemas on 31st May 2013.

India’s heartthrob and Rockstar Ranbir Kapoor recently made the MBA students of NMIMS, Mumbai go crazy with an exciting interaction held at the college! Organized by NDTV, host Vikram Thapa led a friendly discussion with a huge live audience of college students and Team Rockstar: Ranbir Kapoor, Director Imtiaz Ali, Nargis Fakhri and voice of Rockstar: singer Mohit Chauhan in the magnificent campus auditorium.

What they didn’t anticipate was the frenzy they generated! Upon hearing that the stars have arrived at NMIMS, the news spread like wildfire and the students from neighboring colleges such as UPG, Mithibai, etc also gathered on the roads to catch a glimpse, creating lots of chaos and traffic!

Imtiaz Ali brings Kashmiri wedding rituals onscreen with Rockstar!

Director Imtiaz Ali has gone to great lengths to make sure everything shown in Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision and Eros International’s Rockstar is as authentic as possible. The buzz is that for the first time ever on screen a Kashmiri Pandit wedding will be shown, with all its rituals and traditions!

During the recce, Imtiaz had asked the line producer to make him meet a Kashmiri Pandit family in order to maintain authenticity. His house was located in a small hindu settlement in Srinagar and the team went all the way to his house, sat for 3 hours with his wife over tea to understand all the nitty gritties of kashmiri weddings. Great care was taken to make sure everything that would appear on screen was completely accurate and as real as possible!

They then walked to the very popular Kheer Bhawani temple, met the priest and watched his own daughter’s wedding video to have a visual understanding of the rituals. The designers Manish Malhotra and Akki Narula roamed around the streets for hours to get the traditional attire perfect to the T.

Right from the way food is served in the tram (copper plates) to the traditional Dejhor which is Kashmiri jewellery worn in the ears (symbol of a married woman) along with the shaneel fyran (velvet dress/outfit), the intricate henna pattern and the tarang (cap) the girl wears during the wedding rituals, etc, were painstakingly researched for the shoot.

In fact, during the shoot, the locals who were part of the scene were given full freedom to inform Imtiaz if something was going wrong and wasn’t part of the tradition!

Bollywood stars hang out in London despite riots

Bollywood glitterati Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Ali Zafar, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma descended into London a few days ago. Unbeknownst to them, the city was in its most dangerous time in decades, when riots spread across the capital.

Shah Rukh, Ranbir and Anushka arrived on the 8th of  August 2011 to attend the logo and new identity  unveiling   of Hero Motocorp (formerly known as Hero Honda). The high-profile corporate event was also attended by Oscar award-winning music composer A.R Rahman, American singer Akon and former tennis player Boris Becker.

The event was held at The O2, London on Tuesday, the 9th of August 2011. All three actors rehearsed for their speeches and performances a day before on Monday. While Ranbir and Anushka took time out to do some shopping in the West End, Shah Rukh did not leave his residence except for his rehearsal.

Ranbir Kapoor posed with bikes, King Khan performed with Akon and gave a brilliant speech and Anushka performed with several dancers to entertain the audience at the event. After attending the event, Khan met up with good pal Priyanka Chopra, who was in the UK for a film shoot.

The 7 Khoon Maaf actress wrapped up her shoot for Teri Meri Kahani in Nottingham on the same day Khan, Kapoor and Sharma arrived in London. She immediately took off for London and was there for three days. A source close to the project has informed us that the remaining schedule of the film with Shahid Kapoor and upcoming actress Neha Sharma will be wrapped up on the 12th of August in the UK. The next schedule will be in Chandighar, India.

Another source has revealed that Priyanka and Shah Rukh had meetings with the owners of Cineyug, a concert and event management company while they were in London. They have apparently agreed to do a show here soon. It might be a promotional concert that Shah Rukh is planning for his upcoming sci-fi flick Ra.One, but details are being kept under the wrap at the moment. Priyanka has since left London and started the shooting of Burfee in India.

Actor and singer Ali Zafar, who made a sensational debut with Tere Bin Laden in Bollywood has been vacationing in London too for a couple of days.

I can assure you all, that all these actors are/were safe from the riots happening in the UK. I met Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra during their stay in London. Check out these pictures:
