Interview: Jacqueline Fernandez talks about ‘Brothers’

Jacqueline Fernandez in London -BollyNewsUK (3)Bollywood beauty Jacqueline Fernandez stars in the much-awaited sports drama, Brothers, an official remake of Hollywood film Warrior.

Released by Fox Star Studios worldwide, the high-octane family drama also stars international icon Akshay Kumar along with Sidharth Malhotra (Ek Villain), and Jackie Shroff (Dhoom 3) in pivotal roles.

Directed by trailblazer Karan Malhotra (Agneepath), known for extracting inspiring performances from his actors and sending his audiences on an emotional, cathartic journey, Brothers has been produced by renowned filmmaker Karan Johar, under his Dharma Productions banner, along with Lionsgate Films and Endemol India

Brothers is the story of a broken family, set in the world of mixed martial arts and underground street fighting. Akshay Kumar plays the role of Sidharth Malhotra’s elder brother; both siblings are martial arts fighters locked in a fierce rivalry for victory in the ring.

Speaking to Bollywood reporter Sunny Malik, Fernandez talked about the film, her movie choices and playing a mother on-screen for the first time.

Your career changed drastically after starring in Kick last year. How has it been?
It has been great. Last time we spoke, I had just finished Kick and was starting Bangistan. I also finished Roy with Ranbir Kapoor and Brothers. I have also started Rohit Dhawan’s movie with John Abraham and Varun Dhawan. I will also be filming Remo’s next directorial also starring Tiger Shroff. I will now be starting Housefull 3 shortly.

Jacqueline Fernandez in LondonSo you will be filming in London for Housefull 3 again…
Yes, it’s very exciting and I can’t wait.

Everyone wants to work with Dharma Productions. How did you feel when you were offered Brothers?
I was ecstatic. I have always wanted to work with Dharma Productions. This film and my role is a bit unconventional for me because I have been previously only seen on-screen in glamorous roles. This was different and I was honestly surprised that I was even offered such a film. I am so glad that I did do the film because I was in very good hands.

Were you slightly conscious that you will not be seen in make-up on-screen?
Yes, I was but it was also a relief. In films like Dishoom which I am working with John and Varun, I know that I have to look my best. In Brothers it wasn’t about that at all.  It was purely about my performance. It was a relief that I didn’t have to worry about how I was looking, my make-up, clothes or my styling. It was a completely new experience for me.

Do you think not having to worry about these factors brought out a better performance?
I don’t think that styling, clothes and make-up should come in the way of your performance. You should be able to look your best and yet give your best performance. Sadly, what happens is that you get so involved in these things for some roles that they become your priority more than your performance. This time it was different and a little bit weird for me. I wanted to look at myself first before some takes and I was told to not worry and just give the shot (laughs). It was amazing because I felt myself that I was giving a real performance and nothing else mattered.

Who offered you the film? Karan Johar or Karan Malhotra?
It was Karan Johar who came to me with Brothers.

Were you worried that playing an on-screen mother would not go well with your image?
I was very aware of it. I even contemplated not doing the film. I didn’t know whether I wanted to play a Mom at this stage in my career. Even when I started the movie, I was still a little bit apprehensive and not sure. But then it was all about how convincing the audience that I can also be a mother on-screen. I don’t know how that can go against me. When I go and start my movie with Tiger Shroff next, I should still be as convincing in whatever I portray in that film.

Brothers is the first film to release by 20th Century Fox through the Fox Star India and Dharma Productions partnership. Do you feel this film can reach a wide international audience because it’s a Hollywood remake?
I hope so. The story of the film can connect with people from any nationality, region or religion. Everyone can relate to the storyline. I do hope that people come and see it because I don’t think what they will see in Brothers is something that they would expect from a Hindi audience per say.

Brothers is now playing in cinemas nationwide.

Jacqueline, Riteish & Pulkit groove to 5 world cultural dances

Jacqueline Fernandez, Riteish Deshmukh & Pulkit Samrat South Indian Classical Dancing 2Fresh from covering the July edition of Vogue India, Jacqueline Fernandez is the centre piece of Bangistan’s new song release Ishq Karenge. The track sees Jacqueline Fernandez and Bangistan’s two lead actors Riteish Deshmukh and Pulkit Samrat embrace six different cultural dances: African, Arabian Belly dancing, Shaolin Freestyle, Russian folk, as well as South Indian classical dances Kathakali and Bharatnatyam.

Based on a concept by director Karan Anshuman, choreographer Rajeev Surti brought together elements of dance from these cultures seamlessly in the video.

The song is composed by Ram Sampath and lyrics by Puneet Krishna. Singers Abhishek Nailwal, Sona Mohapatra and famed qawwali singer Shadab Faridi lend their vocals to this eclectic track.

Production Designers Aditya Kanwar and Mukund Gupta created a variety of sets that perfectly reflected each culture, while Costume Designer Ameira Punvani’s diverse assortment of outfits embellished the overall experience, as Jacqueline, Riteish and Pulkit showed off iconic hook steps from across the world.

This summer, audiences will be entertained and educated in equal measure as the hysterically funny ‘Bangistan’ comes to cinema screens internationally on 31st July 2015. ‘Bangistan’ is presented by Junglee Pictures and Excel Entertainment, and produced by Excel Entertainment.

Five reasons to watch ROY in UK cinemas

ROY UK Release The film that boasts of actors such as Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez is surely features in the must-watch category. ‘Roy‘ happens to be one such film, where these three will be seen sharing the screen space together for the very first time. As the film is slated to hit the UK screens next week from February 13, here are five reasons why it’s a film worth watching:

Arjun Rampal
The good-looking hunk will be seen after a long time on-screen. Arjun will be playing a filmmaker who falls for every heroine he works with in the film. The kind of intrigue, which is created around his character, is one of the reasons, why you must book your tickets soon.

Ranbir Kapoor
This Kapoor lad too will be seen after a pretty long time. In ‘Roy’, his chemistry with Jacqueline Fernandes will be something new for the eyes. The makers have been successful in keeping his character under wraps so far.

Jacqueline Fernandez
The fans loved her in ‘Kick’, and since then there has been no looking back for this Sri Lankan beauty. It is for the first time that Jackky will be seen in a double role. There has been enough detailing done in order to keep her one look distinct from another one.

Sizzling chemistry
There is enough fodder for the eyes. In a way, what’s better than watching sizzling Jacky romance both Arjun and Ranbir in the same film. The storyline has been set in such a pattern that both the on-screen love affairs look equally appealing to the audience. Go watch it for their on-screen chemistry.

The background score of ‘Roy’ has been created by Sanjoy Chowdhury, where as Ankit Tiwari, Amaal Mallik and Meet Bros Anjjan have composed the songs. ‘Tu Hai Ki Nahi’, ‘Sooraj Dooba Hain’ and ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’ are some of the tracks already riding high on the chart-buster lists.

Watch the trailer here:

Jacqueline Fernandez dances to ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’

One of the most lauded tracks from Bhushan Kumar’s ROY featuring Jacqueline Fernandez, ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’, is an exuberant dance number, shot on a specially created set in Filmcity Mumbai, depicting some of the landmark streets of Malaysia. The song was shot over two days and was choreographed by Ahmed Khan.

Jacqueline’s look in the song is uber chic and stylishly accessorised and the track has been sung by none other than ‘Baby Doll’ singer Kanika Kapoor. The lyrics have been penned by Kumaar and the music composed by Meet Brothers Anjjan.

Bhushan Kumar, who has received a great response to the ROY soundtrack so far says, “After the party anthem ‘Sooraj Dooba Hai’ and the romantic track ‘Tu Hai Ki Nahi’, ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’ is for all the girls. After the chartbuster hit Baby Doll, Meet Brothers have composed this song, sung by Kanika Kapoor, which will be a part of your peppy playlist.”

ROY, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez, releases on 13th February, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar and Freeway Pictures, distributed in the UK by Filmonix.

Filmonix to release ROY in UK cinemas on 13th February

Life imitates art and the lines between fiction and reality are blurred in 2015’s most stylish and engaging romantic thriller, ROY, releasing on 13th February, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar and Freeway Pictures and distributed in the UK by Filmonix.

Bhushan Kumar’s upcoming romantic thriller, ROY, has created quite a stir; a film that has been much-anticipated by the industry as well as the fans. The trailer crossed three million views on YouTube in just three days of its release followed by the songs, which have gained popularity across all media platforms.

Ayesha - ROY (1)After giving audiences several musical hits such as Aashiqui 2 and Yaariyan, ROY is said to be another feather in this renowned company’s hat. Debutant director Vikramjit Singh presents a handsome and accomplished lead cast comprising Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez in a slick, romantic thriller, set against a sweeping backdrop of international locales. Ankit Tiwari, Meet Bros Anjjan and Amaal Malik have created a beautifully haunting soundtrack to complement the air of onscreen mystery and suspense. Sure to be lauded by critics and a new generation of Indian cinema audiences, ROY marks a dynamic new turn in the Indian thriller genre.

While Ranbir Kapoor plays the title role, Arjun Rampal plays the role of a director and will be seen in a completely different look in ROY. The two are paired with Jacqueline Fernandez for the first time in a film. Jacqueline, who plays a double role, is seen romancing the two most dashing leading men of Bollywood in ROY. The actress will be seen in two different looks: elegantly glamorous and vivaciously hip, respectively.

Arjun and Ranbir in RoyT-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar says, “We received a fabulous response to the theatrical trailer and the first song Sooraj Dooba Hai, which is now a party anthem for the season, followed by Tu Hai Ki Nahi and Chhitiyan Kallaiyan. The rest of the songs from the album have an individuality of their own and help the story go forward. The trailer helped us build enough curiosity on the characters each actor plays. Where Arjun is seen in a role and look he has never tried before, Jacqueline plays a double role for the first time and both are poles apart; while Ranbir plays a dynamic title role and he is supportive to the film and Vicky.”

Synopsis: ROY is the greatest thief ever known to man, having pulled off impossible heists in every part of the globe. ‘Kabir’ is a highly successful filmmaker. His first and second movie, Guns Part 1 and Guns Part 2, were based on this thief called ROY. Each part had a new heist, each ending was a different one. As the movie starts, Kabir Grewal is all set to go into production of his next movie, Guns Part 3, and the third part is also about his favorite character ROY. Will the story change this time? Will Roy finally reveal his face to the world? Will he mess up his heist or will he be caught?

Roy releases on 13th February, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar and Freeway Pictures, distributed in the UK by Filmonix.

Jacqueline to endorse a health drink?

Jacky FernandezEver since her last film, Kick, turned out to be a blockbuster, Jacqueline Fernandez has become one of the hottest celebs in B-town.

So much so, that not only do filmmakers want to work with the sexy actress, we hear she has even been approached to be the brand ambassador of a Dubai based health drink. The Kick actress is being offered a whopping 1.25 crore for the same. They even want Jackie to shoot a four-day print campaign.

However, Jacqueline is yet to take a call on this deal. She is currently in Sri Lanka shooting for another brand and will be back in the city soon to start working on Brothers alongside Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra.

That’s when the concerned health drink brand will meet Jacqueline and take things forward.

The brand in question has no ambassador and they want to rebrand themselves by making the Housefull 2 heroine the face of their product. In fact, the Dubai based drink also plans to set up market in India.

Interview: “I have to work harder now” – Jacqueline Fernandez

Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandez will be seen in UK cinemas from today in the much awaited Salman Khan action comedy, Kick.

Kick is helmed by popular producer-turned-director Sajid Nadiadwala, with the screenplay written by Sajid Nadiadwala and acclaimed author Chetan Bhagat.  The film also stars Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mithun Chakraborty and a special appearance by Nargis Fakhri.

The former Miss Sri Lanka Universe spoke to Bollywood Reporter Sunny Malik about the film, her co-star, love for London and her upcoming concert at The 02…

You have had huge success with Race 2 last year. Soon after you were signed for Roy with Ranbir Kapoor, Kick opposite Salman Khan and as the face of ‘The Body Shop’ in India. Your life has changed quite a bit…
It is definitely an extremely great time for me. I know that every movie and project is exciting but with Kick, it is a completely different experience because it is the biggest movie of my career. It’s just WOW for me! I have worked extremely hard on this movie, the hardest I have ever worked. But I haven’t had the time to allow it to sink in, that I am doing something which is so huge. We just wrapped up the movie a few weeks ago and I just finished dubbing for the film too. You have no idea, everything just seems like a dream to me. I am on cloud nine and exploding (laughs). From the trailer launch to the song launches, it’s weird but I had the same feeling I had during Aladin, my first feature film. When I watch the promos of Kick, I feel like this is the first time I have ever seen myself on screen. It’s really cool.

Jacqueline Fernandez in Kick - UK Interview (2)There were strong rumours of another actress being cast for the film last year. Suddenly it was announced that you were the leading lady opposite Salman Khan. Was it hidden from the public or did it happen all of a sudden?
It happened overnight. It happened in slow motion for me (laughs).  I was called to Sajid Nadiwala’s office for a meeting. I presumed it was a meeting for anything else but Kick. I would never have thought that I’ll meet him for a role in Kick. I worked with him twice before and know that he makes good cinema. He suddenly offered me Kick and I was completely shocked. It was the least expected thing that ever happened to me. When there were rumours floating about who the actress will be in the film, usually I would wish for it to come to me or dream about being a part of the movie. At that time, Kick seemed so big to me that I didn’t even dream about it. I thought that were was no point in even dreaming (laughs). That was my attitude. I don’t know what amazing Karma I had in order for me to get this opportunity. It was a shocker.

Everyone wants to work with Salman Khan… He even recently tweeted about you to his 7.45 million followers…
He follows me on Twitter now, which is the coolest thing that ever happened in my life (laughs). A few weeks ago he tweeted that Jacqueline Fernandez will release the song Jumme Ki Raat, without tagging me in it. Just because he tweeted my name, my Twitter following increased by about 300,000 people. I was in shock and couldn’t believe it. Now he has followed me and I am scared to check my Twitter because it might crash (laughs).

Salman Khan has also lent his voice to the soundtrack of Kick… Were you surprised that he sings?
It’s amazing. Is there anything that Salman Khan can’t do? He is an all-rounder artist. He can do it all. When I heard him in ‘Hangover’, I was surprised because he has such an incredible voice.

It’s also the first time that you are dubbing your dialogues in Hindi… that must have been a tough task?
Honestly, throughout the year it has been a gradual process of just working hard and being consistent. I believe that is why I got a film like Kick. Even though I didn’t expect it, I knew that I was someone who was working hard. I was going to my Hindi classes and there was never a point where I wanted to give up. I was constantly analysing what else I can do and was meeting people for work. What I have learnt now is that you have to be consistent in your work. Even now, just because I have got a big movie, doesn’t mean that I can sit back and enjoy. I possibly have to even work harder now. I am obviously prepared to do it because it’s something I am doing ever since I am here working in the Indian Film Industry. I take my work very seriously and I am also enjoying it as well. It’s beautiful when you enjoy what you do.

Jacqueline Fernandez in Kick - UK Interview (5)You also came to London to shoot for the film but the schedule didn’t go ahead because of Salman’s visa issues.
I went mad when I was in London as I explored it quite a lot. Sajid Nadiwala was in Glasgow to shoot some actions scenes with Randeep Hooda. We were in London and as soon as our shopping spree was over, we were told that the schedule has been cancelled. It was still amazing though. We were shopping for the movie but we had a lot of fun all the time and were buying stuff for ourselves.

What new areas of London did you explore?
I went to all the markets like Portobello Road. I visited quite a few vintage markets and antique stores. Besides the usual visits to Harrods, I had afternoon tea, which sounds clichéd but I had to do it (laughs). We also checked out some amazing clubs. I also went to The Arts Club which was nice. It was the best time I have ever spent in London because we had free time and weren’t just shooting for a movie every day.

You are also a part of Bollywood Showstoppers, the concert taking place at The 02 in London on 3rd August…
I am excited for that. It’s in London and that is always a good reason. I also like the mix of people who are a part of it like Shahid Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Ali Zafar. I love performing and I am so excited to be in a show with my contemporaries. I have never performed in London. I can’t wait to maybe dance to ‘Jumme Ki Raat’. It should be fun. We have been working on the look and styling and have recently started rehearsing too with the choreographers from London.

KICK releases in UK cinemas on 25th July 2014.

Interview: Jacqueline Fernandez talks about Pratham and more…

Jacqueline Fernandez in London -BollyNewsUK (1)

Jacqueline Fernandez recently descended into London to attend a fundraiser for Pratham UK, a charity that helps to educate illiterate children throughout India. The event raised a staggering £42,000 for the charity that was attended by a 350 strong audience of women. India’s leading fashion designer Payal Jain mesmerized the audience with her collection ‘Butterflies In My Heart’ for the fundraiser.

She spoke to Sunny Malik ahead of the event and talked about the cause, her films, friendships in Bollywood and much more…

Welcome to London.
Thank you. I love London. It has been amazing to be here. This time it’s a little different because I am here for a certain cause. Its work but it’s very fulfilling as well.

You are in the city to attend a fundraiser for Pratham UK. How did your association with Pratham come about?
I have a friend who is part of the Pratham group. Pratham is also very well-known in India. My friend knew that it’s a cause I am quite interested in and passionate about. I think education is something every child in the world has the right to. That is how my friend got me involved in the fundraiser in London and so I am here.

Can you tell us a little bit about Pratham and their work?
Pratham is all about education and literacy. Over the last twenty years, they have been able to educate over 33 million children all over India. They have done some amazing work. It’s great and really important to have a helping hand for such an issue in a country like India. Pratham has educated over 2 million children in the past year. They want to reach a target of about a 100 million kids. It’s amazing that we have such generous and passionate people involved. Being a Sri Lankan myself, I see the need for it in India. Pratham is one of the most important charities that we have.

You filmed for Housefull 2 in England. How does it feel to be back here and what do you like to do?
You know, I haven’t been back in London since I filmed Housefull 2 in 2011. It’s been a while (laughs). I am actually here just for Pratham but after finishing that up, hopefully I will have time to visit Harrods (laughs). I also love Hyde Park and I have to go there (laughs). That’s about it.

Congratulations on the super success of Housefull 2 and Race 2 at the UK Box Office. Housefull 2 earned over £1 Million and Race 2 earned close to £1 Million here and is still the highest grossing Bolllywood film for this year, so far. How does that feel?
It feels good. It has been a graduation of sorts. It has not really always been this way. It has been a slow process for me but I think since Murder 2 happened, a lot of things have changed for me. With films like Housefull 2 and Race 2, it has been about working with great directors, producers and actors and I think there is just no looking back from that.

Lat Lag Gayee from Race 2 is the most watched Bollywood song on YouTube this year, so far.
Yes, it did get quite big on YouTube.

When we met Saif Ali Khan in London he said the makers should cut him out of the song because his dance moves are really bad.
(Laughs) I know. He keeps telling me ‘Thanks Jackie. You made me look really bad’. I always tell him that I did not do anything. You did it all by yourself (laughs).

Did you expect that Lat Lag Gayee is going to be so popular?
The song was really good. I was definitely promised a very good song by my producer, Ramesh Taurani. He said that I am going to have a ‘Touch Me Touch Me, Kiss Me Kiss Me’ song like Katrina Kaif. When I heard Lat Lag Gayee for the first time, I thought it is nice. But I think what really helped the song was the choreography. Ahmed Khan gave us a really cool signature move and made it really fun and funky. It just came together really well. I did not expect it to become as big as it became but I knew that it would do well.

Jacqueline Fernandez in London -BollyNewsUK (2)After Lat Lag Gayee, Tips Films signed you for an item song in Ramaiya Vastavaiya. The song is very ‘desi’ compared to what you have done before.
I wanted that actually. Initially, I was not interested in doing an item song. I told Ramesh ji that I am not interested in doing another item song. He told me that it was with Prabhudeva and that they want me completely desi. That is something I haven’t really done. I thought to myself that it is something I haven’t done and that it could be quite interesting. At the end of the day, songs and dance mean so much to us. I thought, maybe if I get another one in my pocket, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing. I also really wanted to work with Prabhudeva. He is someone I have been dying to work with. He has danced with me in the song and trained me for it as well. That in itself was an experience.

Sonam Kapoor considers you as one of her best friends. That’s rare in Bollywood, to see two contemporaries being close friends. Asin is also a good friend of Sonam and yourself.
I have worked with Asin in Housefull 2, which is how we became friends, after doing an entire movie together. But Sonam is just one of those extremely cool and confident young ladies. She just has no insecurities about her. That is amazing and you can tell that. She wants to go out all the time and is all about having her girlfriends around her. She is one of those typical kinds of girls who want to go out and shop. She is fantastic and gives me wardrobe and styling advice. I can’t see any other actress doing that. Asin, Sonam and I go out all the time. It’s fantastic when you can open up to someone about things like films, working with certain actors and just have your own little gossip group going.

Those gossip conversations would drive tabloids crazy if they were to leak out.
Oh yeah. You don’t want to know (laughs). That’s between our little trio. But we have so much fun together. It is true that you never really come across people, especially actresses, with whom you can actually just talk and have fun with.

You refused a few big films like Raaz 3 and Krrish 3 and then there were reports that you said you regret those decisions. How are you choosing your films?
Not in the way I was choosing them before (laughs). You know, it’s really sad though because I had not refused those films as much as there were date issues involved. When it came to Krrish 3, I was in full preparation and I was practising stunts at Juhu Beach (Mumbai) every day at six in the morning. That went on for about a month. It just happened to clash with a schedule of Housefull 2. Both films were shot abroad with international technicians. I had to obviously honour my prior commitment which was Housefull 2. With Raaz 3, the script was changed around. When I heard it again, I was just not comfortable with it and I opted out of the film. Those stories were slightly fabricated that I had turned them down for specific reasons. There were valid reasons. Right now, I am a little bit more open and less choosy.

You are not on Twitter even though you were using it a few years ago.
Yes, I am not on Twitter anymore. When I was doing Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, they (marketing team) set up a Twitter account for me which was @jackie_alien.

Your last post was in 2010…
(Laughs) I don’t even remember what my last post was or when it was. But at that time Twitter was new and it was the biggest thing happening. I was told that I will really need it to promote the movie. I went with the flow of it but only for the actual movie. I did not enjoy it too much. I thought that if it is something that will help promote the movie, then I will do it. When I finished with that movie, I didn’t think it served me any purpose, honestly. I did not see the need for it. It wasn’t like I really felt the need of putting my personal life on display, the way other celebrities feel comfortable with. But to each their own, I suppose.

Some celebrities also use Twitter to promote social causes. Would you consider that since you are here for cause, Pratham.
I would but I feel that there are different ways of reaching out to people. I am actually going to be at an event. I am speaking to journalists about it. It’s not all about Twitter as not everyone is on there. The people who are on Twitter are the same people who will go and read articles and go through websites online to read the news. I really never was too fond of it.

Jacqueline Fernandez and Poonam Dhillon attend Pratham UK fundraiser

Payal jain with modelsIndia’s leading fashion designer Payal Jain mesmerised London with her breath-taking collection ‘Butterflies In My Heart’ earlier this week.

The seasoned couturier showcased her collection at the Le Meridian Hotel, in aid of Pratham UK’s open programme which gives dropout girls a chance to complete their education and acquire skills for employment.

The event raised a staggering £42,000 for the charity that was attended a 350 strong audience of women. Guests were seen enjoying the event which was hosted by TV presenter Tasmin Lucia Khan who captivated the audience with her charisma and even encouraged lively exchanges between the celebrity ambassadors Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Poonam Dhillion when asked the question ‘What is your top beauty secret’.

The entertainment continued through the afternoon as guests were seen enjoying a high-octane jewellery exhibit from Delhi-based designer Neety Singh and a performance by Sky’s Got To Dance winners ‘Pulse Collective’.

Jain selected Pratham UK as the charity of choice for her UK launch as she has always truly believed in thoroughly giving back to the community that has supported her thus far. Over the years, she has had several fashion shows, the proceedings of which go to NGOs she works closely with.

She said “I am really pleased to have supported Pratham for my London collection launch. The charity works tirelessly to improve learning levels amongst underprivileged children and as celebrities we have the responsibility of supporting causes that truly make a difference. The crowd was fabulous; probably the best-dressed on a Wednesday afternoon in London and I thoroughly enjoyed being here”.

Jacqueline Fernandez said: “No child should be deprived to the basic right of education as I honestly believe it is a pre-requisite to get anywhere in life. I am so happy to be a part of a charity that is so hands-on is making this happen for the large proportion of the under-privileged in our country”.

Sanjeev Bhaskar added: “From the most basic level it is education that matters – and any project that focuses on education, particularly children, is very close to my heart. I think Pratham’s approach to it, which is to get in and educate, is the right approach to get more children educated”.

Shalija Sharma, chair of Friends of Pratham said of the event: “I have been overwhelmed by the support that we have received for event. It is an inspiring cause to be a part of as I truly believe that knowledge is an asset that no one should be deprived of and Pratham is doing a great job to provide this asset to many young children”.
