Aditya Roy Kapur and Ranbir Kapoor bond over Cars

Aditya Roy KapurActor Aditya Roy Kapur, who was last seen in two back to back blockbusters, got himself a new car recently.

Aditya and Ranbir Kapoor, who starred together in Yeh Jaawani hai Deewani, bonded quite well during the making of the film. When Aditya got the car the first person he took for a drive was his good friend Ranbir Kapoor.

“Ranbir didn’t drive the car, but I took him for a ride on the first day itself. He is happy for me. Ranbir was like, ‘I know how it feels to buy your first big car.’ He told me how he felt when he got his maiden vehicle. I guess the feelings are the same,” says Aditya, with a smile.”

“He is a car junkie who is constantly updating and upgrading,” says Aditya.

As for Aditya, he has bought a new car after driving a very old vehicle for years. “Yes, it was famous for all the wrong reasons,” he says with a laugh. “I drove that car for many years. I still have my old car and love it a lot. I feel, the more the merrier.”

Ranbir to travel to Russia

Ranbir promotes Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in LondonRanbir Kapoor will promote his recent romantic comedy three days before its release in the foreign country

Ayan Mukerji’s recent film, that has apparently earned the biggest opening at the box office this year, is now all set to release in Russia.

And to make sure it rakes in big numbers overseas as well, the film’s lead actor Ranbir Kapoor will soon head to the foreign location to promote the romantic-comedy. For the record, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) crossed the R100 cr mark within the first week of its release in India.

“YJHD will release in Russia in the coming months. Ranbir will be there for three days before the release so that he has time to engage with the media and market the film,” says an insider close to the development of the project.

Incidentally, films starring Ranbir’s grandfather — the late Raj Kapoor — are very popular in Russia. He shot to fame and developed a fan following after hit films like Awara (1951), Shree 420 (1955) and Mera Naam Joker (MNJ, 1970) released there. MNJ also featured Russian actors. As per reports, back in the ’50s, when Russia was in a war-torn condition, the people considered Kapoor’s films a beacon of hope. He is revered as an icon even today in Russia.

“Ranbir is excited about this trip and is looking forward to interacting with his fans,” adds the insider.

Deepika wants to keep her glasses!

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai DeewaniDeepika Padukone’s latest release, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), is doing great business at the box office. And apart from her chemistry with ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, her bespectacled look has also become a topic of discussion. We’ve learned that the actor — who maintains that her character, Naina Talwar, is very close to her real self — wants the glasses she wore in the film as souvenirs.

When asked, the actor says, “Naina is a special character for me. The glasses helped me live that part. I’d like to keep them as a memory of her.”

An insider close to her adds that Deepika asked Karan Johar (the film’s producer) to send her the glasses: “She’s emotional about the character, and the glasses were an important part of it. Also, people kept calling her ‘chashmish’ (a term she was addressed as in the film too).

The spectacles are currently with the team at Dharma Productions, but Karan has already given them instructions to send the pair to Deepika.

“She has never worn glasses in her other films, so she wants to keep these as a souvenir. She’s also relieved that the audience liked her bespectacled look,” says the insider.

YJHD, which is directed by Ayan Mukerji, is having a great run in theatres. it had made over 100 crores at the domestic BO and has also become Ranbir Kapoor’s highest grossing film in the UK.

Pritam Chakraborty praises Matt Menefee‏

Pritam - CopyThe song Illahi Reprise, from the hit soundtrack of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, has added to Pritam Chakraborty’s favorite track list.

The banjo and guitar played in the song is by Matt Menefee who is the creator of the band Cadillac Sky and who’s played and toured with Grammy Winner Mumford and Sons.

His banjo was not cutting through the heavy drumming of Arijit Singh’s version as much as tapas’s dotara so the music team- Pritam, Matt, Sunny made another version. Sunny added a groove with Matt’s guitar and banjo and they had this more authentic bluegrass arrangement ready.

Mohit Chauhan too loved this version. “When Mohit came to dub the song he insisted he wanted to sing on this version” says Pritam Chakraborty. Matt also played for another hit track ‘Balam Pichkari’ which is Matt’s favorite song.

Interview: “The UK is like home to me” – Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Deepika Padukone is on a high after the success of Race 2 and has her hands full with projects opposite the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor.

Her latest release is Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani also starring her ex-beau Ranbir Kapoor. After playing the sultry Aleena in Race 2, Padukone will now be seen as Naina Talwar in Ayan Mukherji’s second directorial venture, out in UK cinemas this Friday.

Naina Talwar is a simple, good-natured and extremely focused girl. Frustrated by the restrictions she needs to put on herself to achieve her dreams of being a doctor; she impulsively decides to go on a trekking trip to Manali to give herself a break.

Through the film, Naina transforms from the restricted claustrophobic person she thought she was to a free-spirited woman with a newfound love for herself and comfort within her choices. She is strong and dependable and stands firmly for rooted family values.

In a chat with Bollywood Reporter Sunny Malik, the actress talks about Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and much more…

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (1)There was a lot of speculation as to why you cancelled your London trip to promote Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Would you like to clarify?
Ok. So what happened is that I was filming (for Chennai Express) in Munnar. It’s a hill station in the south of India near Kerala. I was supposed to finish that schedule and come back to Mumbai on the same night and then leave for London. But it rained and we had three days of non-stop rain where we were shooting. Our schedule was delayed by three days and I could’t leave a unit of two hundred fifty people waiting there. I had to sacrifice the London bit of the promotions to finish my commitment.

Do you feel it has been really difficult for you to manage everything because you are working on several projects simultaneously?
Honestly, now that that phase is over, I can definitely say that it was very, very difficult. But more importantly, more than physically, it was more mentally and emotionally draining for me. I am glad that the particular phase is over now, more or less as Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is up for release and I have also wrapped up Chennai Express (also starring Shah Rukh Khan) which will release on 8th August. The only thing I am focusing on right now is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela.

You have always said that you wanted to work in a Dharma Productions film. What was your reaction when Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, produced by Karan Johar, was offered to you?
I was absolutely over the moon. I remember it started when Ayan Mukherji, the director, called me one night and said that he wants to take me out for dinner. We went out for dinner, just the two of us. I had been hearing from people that he was considering casting me but unless you actually hear from your director, you can never really believe these things. We discussed this project over dinner. He said that he was writing this film and was writing it with me in mind. He said that his ideal cast would be Ranbir and I and I was more than happy. I was sold. I told him that I will do this film for you. That’s the amount of faith I have in him as a director. I have known him from the time he was doing Wake Up Sid, actually even before that, when he was narrating the film to Ranbir. I have known him very closely throughout that entire process. I had decided back then itself that I would like to work with him if he ever offered me a movie. The script came to me much later. Of course, he gave me a one line of what Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will be about. There was no bound script at that time.

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (4)Ranbir said that he wasn’t aware that the character was written keeping you in mind. There was also a lot of speculation that other actresses were being considered for the film. Was that amusing?
Of course it is amusing. But you know where you stand for a particular project. You know whether you have been approached or not. You know the other names that are floating around. So of course, one finds it amusing but at the end of the day, you have to have faith in yourself and in your director. I mean, it makes for good speculation in the news but at the end, the film belongs to the person who eventually does it.

Do you agree with Ranbir’s statement that it’s easy to hide behind characters and difficult to portray a more real person in films?
I know that he has been saying this in his interviews. For me that was a surprise because I prefer doing roles that I identify with. I feel that it’s a very, very interesting observation but even though he says that he finds it difficult, I really enjoy doing these roles. For me, Naina Talwar is me. I was the reference point. I did not have to research. I did not have to observe anyone else. I just had to be me.

Is it not scary that people may find out more about the real Deepika Padukone through such a role?
I don’t know if it’s a scary thing or not. In that sense, you have to trust your director. You have to believe that he will present you in the best manner possible. But no, not at all as I am very comfortable with the person I am. Of course, I have my flaws and insecurities but I was more than happy to use myself as a reference point for this character.

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (3)The film is also shown from your side of the story. I think the story is narrated through a diary your character wrote. Can you tell us more about that?
I don’t really want to get into how the story plays out and reveal more about the screenplay but the film is not just about the love story between me and Ranbir. It is about these four friends, how they meet, separate and meet again. It’s also about your relationship with your parents.

The film also looks very commercial and razzmatazz which is very different from what Ayan Mukherji has done before. Were you concerned or surprised?
I wasn’t concerned at all. As far as the film goes, even though it looks very commercial it is very real and the scenes are pretty much in the same space how Ayan had directed Wake Up Sid. The only thing that took me by surprise were the songs. I couldn’t believe that Ayan wanted to use such commercial songs in his movie. I had expected the songs to be slightly different a little bit like Wake Up Sid’s music. The trailer has been cut in a certain way where the film may seem very commercial and glittery with a lot of dance and music. But the film as a whole is very different from that.

Eros International is also releasing the film in new territories like Russia and Israel. Your film, Cocktail, restarted the trend of Hindi movies in Russia. How does that feel?

It feels really special. I never thought that my movie would restart the trend of Hindi movies in Russia. When I think about Hindi films in Russia, I think about Rajnikanth or Raj Kapoor movies. It feels great that Cocktail started the trend again and now Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will release there too. I hope they show the film the same love.

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - UK Release (2)As the film is being released in new territories, do you feel that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a film that will be appreciated by non-Hindi speaking audiences in the west and has the possibility of “crossing over”?
See, I don’t like terming films as commercial, art films or films that can cross over. I feel that if a film is well made, it will be appreciated. I also feel that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a universal film. I don’t feel that Hindi movies are just for a Hindi speaking audience. Our films are today reaching a wider audience because they are relatable and are being liked by people not understanding the language we speak in our films.

What are your expectations from the UK audience for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani as your films have done better here than Ranbir Kapoor’s films?
(Laughs) I’m grateful that my films have done well in the UK. The UK is like home to me and I miss being there. I started my journey right in Leicester Square, London at the premiere of Om Shanti Om. Then I have shot for films like Love Aaj Kal, Housefull, Desi Boyz and Cocktail in London and in the UK. It’s a special place for me and it will always remain so. I hope the audience in the UK enjoys the movie and show the same love to the film as they have to some of my other films.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is released in UK cinemas on 31st May 2013.

Eros International takes Bollywood Films to Russia

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - EROSEros International will release seven of its popular films in Russia after the success of  Deepika Padukone starrer Cocktail there, including her next, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Some of the films out of the lot have been distributed by Eros in the overseas market out of which some have been co-produced by Eros International.

Russia is among the countries, outside of the mainstream overseas market, that have always shown interest in Hindi movies. Now, after the success of Cockail (2012), Eros is releasing seven more films Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Rockstar and Desi Boyz ( all 2011), Student of the Year, Vicky Donor and Bhoot Returns 3D (all 2012) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) in the county.

“Based on the substantial response that Cocktail generated in Kyrgyzstan and another CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries, we are expecting a huge a response from the Russian market,” says Kumar Ahuja, President, business development, Eros International.

YJHD will be the first of the movies, with the tentative Russian release dated fixed at 4th July .

“Dates for the other films are being worked upon. The Dubbing process will start shortly says Ahuja.

A distributor from Russia, on conditions of anonymity, says, “Cocktail drew in audiences, so we are looking forward to an equally favorable response for the other releases as well. We are anticipating a huge response for Ranbir Kapoor movies like YJHD and Rockstar taking into considerations his Kapoor lineage. There’s also a great demand for 3D movies here, so Bhoot Returns 3D will be a film to watch out for”.

Eros also plans to promote their films in Russia alongside the release. “The Actors have shown interest in promoting the films there. So we might consider sending them. The Kapoor family has enjoyed a long-standing personal and professional relationship with the Russian. So after Raj and Rishi Kapoor, it is Ranbir who is taking this tradition forward, “ says Ahuja.

‘Success makes me nervous’ – Aditya Roy Kapur

Aditya Roy KapurPost the success of  Aashiqui 2, Aditya Roy Kapur talks about his roles, relationships and handling new found stardom.

With the exception of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, he would like to make a strategic choice and focus on consolidating his position as an actor. For that he needs to do lead roles.  Aashiqui 2 has worked terrifically and he has been accepted by the audiences and now it is more important than ever, for him to choose his films wisely. Still Aditya says “It’d be ridiculous to say I would be ignoring all supporting roles.”

For someone who has been receiving so many accolades for his recent release, the best compliment he has ever received comes from An elderly lady who came up to him and said that she had spent her entire life with an alcoholic so she knew what their peculiarities were, and he got the complexity of an alcoholic character perfectly right in the film.

When asked if he needs the assurance of a relationship to keep himself grounded, Aditya said ” I don’t see any direct connection, but yes everybody needs a compassionate relationship. I haven’t had one in a while, but that’s not really my priority right now. If love comes and hits me on the face, then I’m not going to let it go because you can’t control the matters of the heart.”

Talking about overnight stardom “It is quite unreal. I have never seen such kind of success in my life. Not even around me. It makes me nervous. I’m trying to soak in as much as possible because I’m well aware of its tentative nature.”

The obvious question arises that why didn’t he approach his brother Sidharth Roy Kapur, who is the CEO of Disney UTV Motion Pictures to help him out with roles?

He clarifies “It was a very conscious decision among all us brothers to not to interfere in one another’s business. All three of us are doing well. I never needed his help because it was never my ambition to become an actor. I wasn’t running around Bombay asking for work. I was happy with whatever I was getting. So when these films didn’t succeed, I wasn’t left heartbroken. I did them because I felt I shouldn’t say ‘no’ to an experience.”

Interview: “Happiness is only real when shared with someone” – Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir in London - Yeh Jawaani Hai DeewaniBollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor was in London recently to promote his latest release, Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The young award-winning actor teamed up with Johar’s production house, Dharma Productions and with director Ayan Mukherji again after the success of Wake Up Sid (2009).

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani also unites the Kapoor lad with his ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone on-screen after Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008). The film also stars Aditya Roy Kapur ( Aashiqui 2) and Kalki Koechlin.

In the film, Ranbir Kapoor plays the character of Bunny who is charming and fun-loving, full of spirit and an indomitable spirit of adventure. He rejects mediocrity and longs to leave his life at home behind to travel, see the world and embrace the freedom of being unattached.

Audiences will see Ranbir as Bunny grow from a young student full of unconventional ambitions to a hard-working videographer on a travel show, chasing and concretizing his dreams. He embraces a modern value system and wants to be answerable to no one but himself.

In Conversation with Bollywood Reporter Sunny Malik, Ranbir Kapoor talks about the film and much more…

You came to London last time to promote Barfi! and had just wrapped up the schedule of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in France. How does it feel like to actually be promoting the film here now?
It is really strange as for my last release Barfi!, I kick-started the promotions in London and now I have started the promotions of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani here. I hope the love I get for this film will be similar. I am really excited as it is my second time collaborating with my most favourite person in the world, Ayan Mukherji. I have immense belief in him as a person and filmmaker. I am really excited that we collaborated on a movie like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

How was your experience playing the character of Bunny after doing different roles in Rockstar and Barfi! ?Ranbir in London - YJHD
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
was a really hard film for me because I had played characters in Rockstar and Barfi! and it is easy for an actor to hide behind characters. They have certain nuisances – the way they walk and talk. In Barfi! I didn’t even speak and I feel those characters are easier to play. Now when you have somebody who is real in an urban and contemporary setting, there is so much of yourself that you have to put out there. It has to be organic and moment to moment. I feel that it’s very tricky as it’s hard to, in some ways, reflect your own personality onto a character. However, I feel if the film and my performance are appreciated, all credit must go to Ayan. He did so much of work for me as an actor and I will always be grateful for that.

Ayan Mukherji had you in mind while writing the story but could you picture yourself playing the role when you first read the script?
Ayan is a dear friend of mine and because of that, he wrote a lot of me into the film. My character is a detached boy who has this desire of wandering around the world, meet people and see different cultures. The story is basically of him coming of age. The simple philosophy of the film is that happiness is only real when it’s shared with someone or with people around you. I think it’s a beautiful philosophy to make a film on.

Ayan also said that he wrote the character of Naila Talwar keeping Deepika Padukone in mind. But you said in an interview, before Deepika was announced as the heroine, that Katrina Kaif is starring the in the film. What happened?
I don’t know what happened at that time. There are certain dates of actors that keep fluctuating and I was under the impression that he was talking to Katrina to do the film. I wasn’t aware that Ayan had written the character keeping Deepika in mind. He had not shared that with me. I am very glad though that I collaborated with Deepika. This is the perfect film for us to do together after Bachna Ae Haseeno. I have closely followed her career and have seen all her films. To see her growth as an actor and to see her success is just amazing. I had a wonderful time working with her.

There was some criticism to the trailer as fans said that one could make out the story of the film from the three-minute footage. Was that bothering you?
We have very carefully tried to blend entertainment with the kind of films that Ayan, the director, believes in. You have to do that to get the audience into theatres. You have to add a little bit of glamour and so called poppy culture. But at heart, the film is very unadulterated and very new. It is one of the newest films I have worked in and I am not saying that because it’s coming out now. I don’t have a reference to this film. It’s not like Bachna Ae Haseeno or Deepika’s Love Aaj Kal. Yes, the setting is contemporary and urban but that is the only similarity. The characters and nuances and the dynamics between all of the characters, all of that is very new. It’s very heart-warming. I feel that if the heart of a film is in the right place and there is warmth, then that’s what really matters.

Ranbir promotes Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in London

Your character, Bunny, travels a lot in the film. Is it easy for you as an actor to travel all around the world?
My work makes me travel a lot. But besides work, I am quite lazy and if I have a few days off, I will just travel to London or New York. My job takes me to such wonderful places like Barfi! took me to Darjeeling, Rockstar took me to Prague and I shot in Delhi for a very long time. For Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani I went to Manali, Kashmir, Paris and Udaipur. I am really grateful to the kind of places my job takes me to.

You also shot with Madhuri Dixit for a special song, Ghagra.
Well, I love Madhuri. She broke my heart when she got married (laughs). The opportunity I had to work with her completes me as an actor. As the director is a dear friend, I bribed him into letting me kiss her on the cheek (laughs). It was inspiring to see her at work.

The film was supposed to release in January, then it was postponed to March and now it’s releasing on 31st May. Why were there delays?
I always believe whenever you give a film a deadline to release on a particular date, you kill the movie. A film is a piece of art. It needs to evolve and then there is editing, background music and that takes time. Sometimes you say that a film is coming out a certain date but then there are some production issues like what the correct release date is and what other films are releasing at that time. We want everyone to see the film and sometimes delays are in nobody’s hands. Sometimes you are fortunate that you get a correct release date and I think, 31st May is a great date since the IPL (Indian Premiere League) is over and most colleges have holidays. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a movie that families will enjoy.

Everyone is going gaga over your Badtameez Dil dance moves. The music has also become very popular…
The composer, Pritam is really instrumental in the success of so many movies nowadays. He is just such a great musician. He provides so much entertainment and joy through his songs. Badtameez Dil has a swing dance and the choreographer, Remo wanted to try something new. Even the hip thrusting move, even though it was simple, was catchy and that’s what matters. People said that we are trying to emulate Shammi Kapoor. Just because I am from his family people saw the similarities. The concept of the song was that we are all getting old and we all will get old at some point in our life and let’s just enjoy our youth before that. It’s a cocktail party song and the re-entry of the character Bunny in all his friends’ life. He is just trying to infuse some laughter into people’s life.

Ranbir Kapoor in London - Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Jacqueline recently confirmed that you are doing a film, Roy, with her…
Yes, it’s directed by a childhood friend of mine. I am not the lead in the film. It stars Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez. I have a very interesting character role and I am really looking forward to it. I will start shooting for it by the end of the year. I hope that my friend, Vicky, makes a good film.

She said that she is a big fan of yours and looks forward to learning a lot from you…
I think she is just pulling my leg (laughs).

Everyone from the film industry keeps praising you. How does that feel?
I don’t take it in because I don’t believe it. I am still struggling as an actor, inside my head. I have so much to learn from people. I can’t really be content with so much love coming my way. I have to shut it out at some point. It feels great at that moment but then you just have to switch off and focus on what you are doing.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani opens in UK cinemas on 31st May 2013.

Ranbir Kapoor shakes a leg with Madhuri Dixit in Ghaagra

She in-arguably is one of the finest dancers Bollywood has ever seen. So, the anticipation surrounding Madhuri Dixit’s special number with Ranbir Kapoor — titled ‘Ghaagra’ — in Ayan Mukerji’s next, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, is hardly surprising. And Ranbir himself seems more excited than anyone else. The Kapoor scion is even happy to let Madhuri — who celebrated her 46th birthday recently — be the centre of attraction.

“While shooting, I wasn’t trying to compete with her. I was more than happy with Madhuriji take centre stage. When she is in a song, who is going to take a look at me anyway? She has added a lot to the buzz of the film. I’m sure people will be curious to see her on the big screen,” says Ranbir, who admits that he has “always been a great admirer” of hers.

“We are really thrilled that she has done the song. It was fun doing it. Actually, it was Karan Johar’s ( Producer) idea. He suggested it to Ayan because we always had the scope for such a song (his character, Bunny, is introduced here).

Ranbir parties with ‘YJHD’ crew in Paris

Ranbir in ParisRanbir Kapoor is a popular man in present-day Bollywood. Now, here’s news that might make everyone — from actors to cinematographers to technicians — want to work on an upcoming project with him. It seems, the man not only enjoys a good meal and a party, but he also picks up the cheque at the end of the night. During outdoor schedules for his next, Karan Johar-produced Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), Ranbir would often go out with the whole unit.

“While shooting in Paris, he would take the whole cast and crew out for meals after packing up the day’s shoot. And he would pay for it all,” says a source close to the production house.

Director Ayan Mukerji adds that “the party quotient on our film shoot was at its peak during the Paris schedule. Ranbir had a lot to do with it. He’s a great guy to party with when he’s in the mood. My most memorable night during the shoot was when we all went out after wrapping up our schedule in the south of France. Ranbir was a great sport with the whole crew, and has continued to be one through the rest of the film.”

Even during a schedule in Manali, the actor apparently treated the team at a popular place called Johnson’s Café. Ayan says, “He (Ranbir) believes the crew should have a good time. He’s always been generous with his time, energy, money and enthusiasm.”

Deepika and Ranbir bond over eggs and noodles

Deepika and RanbirWhile shooting for Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh the actors survived the freezing cold weather.

The trailer of Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani may look like a film that’s all about fun and frolic, but the experience the cast went through while shooting in the north was quite different due to weather conditions in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, where the film was extensively shot. The actors still had a blast shooting in the cold.

In January, when the unit was shooting at high altitude in Kashmir, apparently the unit had a lot of trouble arranging food. A source says, “It was a big hassle to take food to that height, so everyone had to survive on eggs and instant noodles for a few days.”

Likewise, while in Himachal Pradesh, the weather conditions were a big problem for the entire cast. “It was very cold and to add to it, the hotel in which Ranbir and Deepika were put up, had power cuts for several hours a day. There were no heaters either that could help keep them warm,” adds the source.

However, Ayan Mukerji says the schedule was very “adventurous”.

“Our first schedule was in Manali. We were depicting a trek in the movie, so we consciously chose locations that were offbeat and in the middle of nowhere. Jalori Pass, especially, was a crazy location. It was a steep, uphill climb to reach the location, a real trek of sorts. However, our shoot ended up being even more fun because of all this. It was perhaps the best schedule of the film,” said the young director.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani opens in UK cinemas on 31st May 2013 through Eros International.
