Ash King performs ‘I Love You’ in London

Reliance Entertainment and Spice PR invited me to a special preview screening of Bodyguard in London before the film was released to the public. Besides press and competition winners a very special guest was also in attendance.

Ash King is a London born singer and started his career in Bollywood as a playback singer in 2009. He was personally asked by A.R Rahman to sing a song for Delhi 6 which starred Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. He then went on to sing songs for films like Aisha and Dum Maaro Dum. His latest release is I Love you from Atul Agnihotri’s already blockbuster Bodyguard.

I Love You is also the only track from the OST of Bodyguard that has been composed by Pritam, with whom Ash King has worked in the past on Te Amo (Dum Maaro Dum).

Ash King performed his new song for the audience at the preview screening on Tuesday at Cineworld, Haymarket, London just before the screening started. The British Indian singer told Bollywood journalist and publicist Ashanti OMkar how he got the chance to sing the song that is already a favourite amongst Bollywood fans.

Bodyguard breaks UK B.O. records!

While expectations from a Salman Khan film on Eid are very high, Bodyguard has beaten all pre-opening estimations.

Bodyguard has taken a stupendous start at the global box office, smashing many box office records for an Indian film in the process. These include the single largest days collections in India and the highest opening day in India and the UAE.

The film has also opened a record mid-week opening in the UK. Tuesday saw limited screens at 32 cinemas taking ÂŁ64,000. Wednesday’s full release was record breaking, with 51 cinemas, culminating in ÂŁ195,000, making it the highest opening day for any Indian movie to date.

It also yielded an extremely strong opening in US. With a 5 day weekend in all markets we expect that Bodyguard will post a new record for an opening weekend in many markets.Says Sanjeev Lamba, CEO of Reliance Entertainment: “Bodyguard has capped an extremely successful summer line-up from our stable, which also included stellar performers like Singham and Double Dhamaal.”

Interview with Kareena Kapoor in London

Kareena Kapoor is Bollywood’s most sought after actress. Whether its films or brand endorsements, the 30-year-old actress is in demand everywhere. She is also the only actress who can flaunt about having films with all the Khans, due to release over the next six months. She has been given titles for the “sexiest” and “number one” actress but takes them lightly as she prefers her work to speak for herself. I caught up with the actress in London to talk about her forthcoming release; Bodyguard, while she was here on a private holiday with beau Saif Ali Khan.

What is Bodyguard about?
Everyone knows that it’s this big Salman Khan movie and it has got action and comedy. But the best part of this movie is that it’s basically a love story. That is the emotional and strong part of the movie. That is where my character comes in.

What is Salman Khan’s character in the film?
He is the bodyguard to this girl, played by me who goes to college. She tricks him to fall in love with him to get rid of him, as he is constantly annoying her. Through that process, she actually falls in love with him. Then the saga starts and it’s very deadly and entertaining.

Why an emotional love story with Salman when the recent films you did together did not work at the Box Office?
Salman has not done a love story in a while. He has either been doing action or comedy.
This film has got everything in it to make it a success.

Why did you decide to be part of this film?
I think, because of the role. In a Salman Khan film, this is actually the only film where the girl is the backbone of the movie.

You have a British actor in Bodyguard, Hazel Keech who plays your friend. How was your experience working with her?
It was great working with Hazel. She is a lovely girl and I know that she is from London. She has a special role in the movie and I hope people like her as she has acted really well.

How was it working with Salman? He is said to be always late on the sets.
Well, actually I am quite a late person myself. I am not a very morning person. So it has actually worked out perfect for me because Salman is never on the set before eleven and I don’t wake up before ten. So, that’s great (laughs). It suited me fine because I hate early mornings.

You have a very nice desi look in the film. Did you decide on your look in the film or did you leave that to your designer?
I think, it was both Manish Malhotra and me. We sat down and decided on the look. Obviously, the desi look that you see in the film works for me very well. Everyone likes that look more. I think my fans like to see me in that sort of getup. The look has colour and is glamorous but is also traditional and nice.

Is Divya (Bodyguard) similar to Geet (Jab We Met)?
Not really. Of course there is Punjabi and stuff like that but there is nothing really similar. When you see it, you will know that she is fun and bubbly but that’s me. Geet was completely different. Geet was iconic in its own way and Divya is quite special in its own way.

What is your favourite song from the film
I love Teri Meri Prem Kahani. Everybody is listening to it and they love it too.
Have you seen the original Bodyguard?
I have seen the Mallayalam film.

Does the film have a surprise element or is it different from the original one?
It’s simple, nice and there is no gimmick to it. Apart from the action, it’s quite pure.

As Bodyguard is releasing worldwide on Eid, it stars you and Salman. Do you think there are higher expectations from the film?
Of course, there is this Salman and Eid connection and it’s his first release after Dabangg. But I am quite sure that people won’t be let down. It has got everything to make the movie a huge success.

EXCLUSIVE QUESTIONS FROM KAREENAK.NET

Which director would you like to work with in a solo Heroine film?
I would love to work with Imtiaz Ali again and with Raj Kumar Hirani again.

If you could remake one Hindi film with Saif which one would it be?
With Saif? Oh God (laughs). Actually, I should be asking my fans this. They should give me ideas on which film they would like to see me with Saif in a remake.

Produced by Atul Agnihotri, Alvira Agnihotri and Reliance Entertainment, Bodyguard is releasing worldwide and in the UK on the 31st August 2011.

Press Release: Local Bodyguards for Salman & Kareena

‘Bodyguard’ makers will get `local’ bodyguards for the stars, while Salman Khan & Kareena Kapoor gear up to go on multi-city tour in India.

The idea of having a personal bodyguard becomes more in vogue in India, as every politician, star and celebrity seems to be have a cop, black cat commando or a private security firm adjoining with them as a safeguarding entourage. With Salman Khan’s high profile film ‘Bodyguard’ releasing this Eid, the demand for bodyguards seem to be increasing by the day.

Salman Khan plays Kareena Kapoor’s character Divya’s Bodyguard in the film. Since her life is under threat his job is to save her and protect her.

The makers of Bodyguard are taking the concept of the ‘Bodyguard’ to every town and city that Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor travel to. Citizens of those cities will be chosen as their Bodyguard and will get to protect them throughout the day that they are there.

Says source: “We want people to experience the life of a bodyguard. The selected person will be like a shadow to Salman or Kareena in each city they travel to, and will get an intimate glance into the world of glamour and stardom. For a lay person, this will be a great opportunity to spend time with Salman or Kareena the whole day.”

Atul Agnihotri, the producer of Bodyguard confirms: “We are traveling to around 15 cities in one week. Both Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor individually will be traveling and promoting the film. Every city they will have a local bodyguard who will take the role of being their ‘personal bodyguard’ for the day. As a concept it is an extremely enriching experience.”

Bodyguard is this season’s biggest and most anticipated film, releasing on the very long weekend of Eid and Ganpati on 31 August, 2011, in selected cinemas worldwide.

Bebo does a “Mandakani” for Bodyguard

The Bollywood industry had recently turned upside down with the whole dilemma of whether Kareena Kapoor has agreed to do the Mandakini act for a film or not.

Will the Kapoor girl do the bathing act that still remains fresh in audiences’ minds was a question that had kept many under deep curiosity.Well the actress has finally come out of secret doors and did the most famous ‘Mandakini’ act for ‘Bodyguard’ along with the hunk Salman Khan. The song is a love track between Kareena and Salman titled ‘Teri Meri Prem Kahaani’ , shot in Film City over three days – last Saturday Sunday and Monday.Sources from the set revealed that Kareena was seen donning a beautiful white saree for the first time specially this act, she gracefully danced under the rain water and was very comfortable performing the choreography of the song, which was done by Vaibhavi Merchant.

Not only that, Bebo had few changes in other sarees as well but she absolutely loved her white saree look. Sources from the set couldn’t stop talking about her look in the saree under the rain water and how she perfectly matched Mandakini.

Atul Agnihotri says, “we shot the love song ‘Teri Meri Prem Kahaani’ with Salman and Kareena recently. Kareena looked absolutely stunning in the saree. The audiences will surely enjoy the song and fall in love with her all over again.”

Bodyguard is touted as this season’s biggest film; after ‘Wanted’ (2009 Eid release) and ‘Dabangg’ (2010 Eid release) Salman’s ‘Bodyguard’ is all geared up to release this Eid on 31st August, 2011.

‘Bodyguard’ is a romantic action film starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Directed by Siddique, the film is a remake of the director’s 2010 Malayalam film of the same name.
