Bollywood actors have often mentioned meeting real-life people to get into the skin of the character. While Rani Mukerji interacted with Mumbai police officers for a cop’s role in Mardaani (2014), Vidya Balan met sleuths to play a detective in Bobby Jasoos (2014).
Now, Emraan Hashmi, too, is doing the same. The actor, who plays a restaurant chain owner in his next, Humari Adhuri Kahaani also starring Vidya Balan, has been meeting hotel employees to learn about the nitty-gritties of their profession.
The actor has been taking time out from his work schedules to visit different hotels in the city. “Every alternate day Emraan visits a hotel and he interacts with the management. He is trying to understand their behaviour towards the hotels’ staff and their conduct with the guests,” says a source close to the actor.
Emraan is also meeting a lot of hotel chain owners to know how they function and observe their body language. The actor is also not shying away from interacting with the waiters and is trying to understand how they manage a crisis situation at work.
“He is happy with whatever observations he has made so far and feels this experience will help him to play the role to perfection,” adds the source.
When contacted, Emraan confirmed the news saying, “Yes, I have been meeting a lot of hotel management people. It is always good to study real-life situations before playing a character.”
Humari Adhuri Kahani is directed by Mohit Suri and releases in UK cinemas through 20th Century Fox on 12th June 2015.
One of Bollywood’s finest actresses, Vidya Balan will turn super sleuth in her forthcoming film: Bobby Jasoos, which releases on 4th July 2014 by Reliance Entertainment.
The gripping film sets a new benchmark for the thriller genre in Indian cinema and examines in a clever, witty and fresh way the dynamics of the gender struggle between women and men. The film celebrates the aspiration of ‘Bobby’ (Vidya Balan – The Dirty Picture, Parineeta), who wants to become the number one detective in the old city area of Hyderabad. What ensues is a classic thriller caper that serves up a tantalising mix of twists and turns, as the vivacious and engaging ‘Bobby’ solves a series of mind-boggling crime cases.
Bobby Jasoos stars the talented and multi-award winning actress Vidya Balan, who once again shines in the title role of this quirky and edgy thriller. Famed for playing strong female protagonists and for breaking the stereotype of a Hindi film heroine, Vidya portrays the lady detective ‘Bobby’ with dedication and suitable aplomb, marking a new direction in the career of this ever-versatile actress.
Vidya Balan has wowed audiences since her big screen debut in the 2003 independent Bengali drama film Bhalo Theko, and has gone on to win an impressive 12 awards for her acting work and stellar contribution to the Indian film industry. She is the recipient of a National Film Award, five Filmfare awards and five Screen awards, as well as being awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2014.

Other notable roles include the musical drama Parineeta and the successful comedy film Lage Raho Munna Bhai. In 2013 Vidya was one of the official ambassadors for the Indian film industry at the Cannes Film Festival.

As a part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2014 the festival ambassador, Vidya Balan did a stunning photo shoot with Australia’s celebrated designers – Akira Isogawa and Susan Dimasi.
Akira Isogawa is one of Australia’s most prominent contemporary designers. He has dressed most of Australia’s notable figures including the famous gown that Cate Blancett wore when she won the Oscar for Elizabeth.
Akira created a special dress for Vidya true to Vidya’s style – a fusion of his Japanese roots and Australian chic.
Susan Dimasi presented Vidya in a stunning sari. The fabric was specially designed by Susan, by hand weaving a textile with silk ribbon through a rubber net drawing inspiration from the 18th century brocades out of the Victorian art gallery’s collection.
The hand-woven textile was exhibited at the prestigious Melbourne Now arts exhibition at the iconic National Gallery of Victoria and then draped on Vidya as a Sari.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne runs from May 1st to May 11th , screening over 45 films with over 30 Australian premieres. The festival will be opened by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan on May 1st.
