UTV Motion Pictures and renowned choreographer and director, Remo D’souza bring together India’s first dance film in 3D – a spectacular entertainer that proves yet again that if you dare to dream, impossible is nothing.
The film titled ABCD: Any Body Can Dance stars Prabhudheva, star performers of prestigious Indian dance reality shows Dharmesh and Salman Yusuff Khan and So You Think You Can Dance season 3 finalist Lauren Gottlieb.
Synopsis: For Vishnu (Prabhudheva), widely regarded as India’s best dancer, dance is more than a passion – it’s the reason he lives! So when he finds himself thrown out from the swish dance academy he himself set up, by his manipulative business partner, it feels like the oxygen has been sucked out from the air he breathes.
Heart-broken, Vishnu decides to give up dance and leave Mumbai forever. However the night before his departure he witnesses a most amazing sight – a group of dancers preparing for the upcoming Ganpati Dance Battle – an annual festival that pits Mumbai’s best dance groups against each other.
Watching the raw talent of these amazing dancers helps Vishnu arrive at a decision – he will take this disparate group under his wing, help them overcome their personal rivalries and past demons and turn them into India’s best dance squad.
Disney UTV will release ABCD in UK cinemas on 8th February 2013.
Choreographer director Remo D’Souza will pay tribute to evergreen actors like Dev Anand, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra in the first promo of ABCD – AnyBody Can Dance. He will perform their signature dance moves.
Remo, along with the film’s producers UTV Motion Pictures, has decided to cut a special promo for the film. The trailer will feature Remo performing signature steps of other actors like late Rajesh Khanna and Shammi Kapoor too.
“We are planning to cut some special promos. For decades, these actors have made our country dance to their steps, which have become trademarks of sorts. A tribute to these legends in a film like ABCD seems apt,” Remo said in a statement.
The 3D dance-based film features performers from reality show Dance India Dance, which Remo had previously judged.
The show’s winners Salman Khan, Dharmesh, Prince, Mayuresh and Vrushali play central roles in the movie, which has ace choreographers Ganesh Acharya and Prabhudheva as highlights. Prabhudheva will be paying tribute to Michael Jackson by performing his signature moves in a song from the film.
Meanwhile, the makers are still in talks with Bollywood’s dancing diva Madhuri Dixit, who they want to rope in for a number with Prabhudheva. The two last danced together for the song, Que Sera Sera in the 2000 film Pukar.

Surrounded by controversies, Prabhu Deva is an expert at appearing calm. He has choreographed around 100 movies like Enthiran (2010), Engeyum Kadhal(2011) and Don: The Chase Begins (2006) and is often referred to as the Michael Jackson of India. This year, the 39-year-old is all set for a series of releases, including the country’s first 3D dance film, ABCD (Any Body Can Dance), with other choreographers. There is also Rowdy Rathore with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha and Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal with Bhumika Chawla.
More from the actor and choreographer:
What should we know about Rowdy Rathore?
A commercial action movie, it is a remake of the Telugu film, Vikramarkudu. Akshay Kumar is the hero and he plays two different roles. As we know, Akshay has been an action hero and the role suits him and Sonakshi is a great dancer.
Why is ABCD a revolutionary film?
It is India’s first 3D Hindi dance movie. There is no heroine, though Lauren Gottlieb from So You Think You Can Dance, is also a part of the movie. I play the main lead.
What are the challenges of making a 3D movie in India?
It takes double the time and the technique is different. There are no pauses and cuts and objects placed in a room have to be in the right place, even if it is a table or a chair. Every scene has to be approved by a specialist before we proceed to the next scene. If necessary, we will re-shoot the entire scene. For instance, if a small fly enters the scene it looks big on-screen!
With the show, Ungalil yaar Prabhudeva dedicated to you completing almost 100 movies, where is dance headed in India?
It is not just about TRP and entertainment; such shows bring talent from small villages. Before there was only one dancer known to people but with practice everyone can make those moves.
After Ranbir Kapoor in Chillar Party, are you open to doing an item number?
I do not understand the concept. When a guy does one song in the movie, it is a special appearance and when the girl does it, it becomes an item number. But I am open to it.
Rowdy Rathore is scheduled to releases on 1st June 2012 in the UK.
