Kajol unveils ‘Helicopter Eela’ poster in London

The effervescent and delightful Kajol returns to the silver screen this September in a new role… as an overbearing and somewhat controlling mother!

Helicopter Eela, starring Kajol in the lead role with award-winning youngster Riddhi Sen as Vivan, her teenage son, is the story of Eela, an aspiring playback singer and single mother.

Kajol unveils the first poster in London at Courthouse Hotel, Great Marlborough St.

She has given up all her dreams to raise her only son. But now her baby son ‘Vivan’ is all grown up and being a typical young millennial, doesn’t want his mother’s life to revolve around him. But being an overprotective mother, Eela has other ideas and joins her son’s college to spend more time with him! Unfortunately, her plans backfire and she suffers a backlash from Vivan for invading his privacy.

Kajol jetted in to London on Friday 13th July to reveal the official poster of her forthcoming film. The poster shows Kajol as a puppeteer, trying to control her son with the puppet strings…

Talking about her role in the film, Kajol says: “As a mother, I felt a real connection with Eela’s character.  She loves her son unconditionally and has built her life around him. But as he grows up, she finds herself becoming more and more dispensable. She has also put her life and dreams on hold, like so many mother’s do. This is a life situation that so many women face once their kids grow up. And, one that I will inevitably face is, what do I do now? How do I hold on to my baby? In a way, Helicopter Eela is a coming of age film, more for Eela rather than it is for her son!”

Directed by Pradeep Sarkar who has become synonymous with female-centric characters in films such as Parineeti, Laga Chunri Mein Daag and Mardani, Kajol is in safe hands and Helicopter Eela is sure to be a hit with fans across the world.

Director Pradeep Sarkar says: “The story of Helicopter Eela will make you fall in love with this mother son duo!  Hope the audience enjoys the film as much as we enjoyed making it.”

Helicopter Eela is produced by Ajay Devgn, Dhaval Jayantilal Gada and Aksshay Jayantilal Gada, with music by Amit Trivedi.

Producer Mr Jayantilal Gada says;” The journey of the mother and son in the film is extremely relatable. We are glad to bring this story to the audience. The team of powerhouse talent (Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Pradeep Sarkar and Amit Trivedi) is here and have delivered a great product.”

Ajay Devgn who is producing this slice-of-life film says: “I was drawn to the story of this loving but difficult relationship between a mother and son. The script told a beautiful story, of a journey that all parents face, but it is especially true and unique to mothers and their sons. The characters played by Kajol and Riddhi Sen are extremely strong and they will have an astonishing connect with the audience across the globe.”

Helicopter Eela releases in UK cinemas on 14th September 2018 by Eros International.

Speaking about the launch Shah Rukh Khan through his video message said that it was a special day, as the music of a Bollywood film has never been sampled to the media in the past and that too even before the trailer has been released.

The three tracks previewed to the press at the event are titled ‘Gerua’, Manma Emotion Jaage’ and ‘Janam Janam’. The soundtrack of Dilwale will feature seven tracks in total.

Speaking to the media at the sneak peek event, Pritam said that Dilwale is a very special movie for him. “I have never worked on a full-fledged Shah Rukh Khan movie. I composed the music for Billu which featured SRK in a special appearance. Last year on his birthday, Shah Rukh told me that he was coming to me with something special. I was extremely excited as I have always wanted to work with him. Our generation has grown up idolising SRK-Kajol.”

Gerua

Veeran Tha Dil Ka Jahaan
Jis Din Tu Daachil Hua

Duniya Ko Bhula Ke
Tumse Mila Hoon
Dil Se Nikli Hai Dua
Rang De To Mohe Gerua

” ‘Gerua’ is a romantic song picturised on SRK and Kajol in Iceland. It has been sung by Arijit Singh and Antara Mitra. I actually reworked the song after I saw the picturisation and added Bulgarian folk instruments in the track. When I found out that Kajol has been cast opposite SRK in Dilwale, I couldn’t sleep for one night. Then I stopped thinking about it. Their legacy is impossible to beat. This was the first romantic song that I played to them and they approved it straight away. The words in the song mean that ‘I should become a yogi in your love and leave the world’. We went through a few voices for Gerua but Arijit suits the track and Antara brought a freshness to it,” said Pritam about the love song ‘Gerua’

Manma Emotion Jaage

Chooriya Re
Gooriya Re

Tere Jalwa Dekha Tu
Mana Main Mausam Jaage Re
Dil Jaaga Re
Manma Emotion Jaage

Talking about this dance party song, Pritam said, ” This song has been picturised on Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in a grand way. It’s a fun track and the main hook of the song is something that Amitabh Bhattacharya came up with.”

Janam Janam

Jaane Saath Chalna Yoohin
Kasam Kasam Aa Ke Milna Yoohin

Meri Subah Ho Tun Hi Ho
Aur Shaan Bhi

Teri Baahon Main Hoon Mere Dono Jahaan
Tu Meri Aarzoo
Tu Meri Aashiqui

Janam Janam

“After SRK and Rohit Shetty narrated the script to me, this was the track I composed on the next day. They instantly liked it as well. Janam Janam is truly the theme of the movie and is played whenever SRK-Kajol meet in the film.  While the film is a typical Rohit Shetty film, it also has a love story which is very important,” said Pritam.

‘Dilwale’ is directed by Rohit Shetty, whose last collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, ‘Chennai Express’, was a runaway, global success. The film also features the crème of Indian cinema’s new generation talent, Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan, alongside a seasoned supporting cast of actors like Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Vinod Khanna, Kabir Bedi, Mukesh Tiwary and Varun Sharma.

100 Years of Bollywood

This year sees celebrations abound to mark 100 Years of Bollywood. A century ago, on 3 May 1913, audiences in India were introduced to Dadasaheb Phalke’s ground-breaking Raja Harishchandra. The 40-minute long black and white silent film, based on the legend of King Harishchandra, is widely considered to mark the official start of what is today one of the world’s best loved and most successful film industries.

In fact, celebrations to mark 100 Years of Bollywood started Kajolas early as last year. This is due to the fact that some contend the short film Shree Pundalik by Dadasaheb Torne, released on 18 May 1912, is in fact the first Bollywood film. However, critics cite several factors, including its short length of 22 minutes, the fact that it was a recording of a popular play, and that it had a British cameraman and was processed in London, as reasons it is superseded by Raj Harishchandra.

While the industry currently produces a staggering average of 1000+ feature films a year (twice the annual production of Hollywood), annual revenues of Bollywood films are still only a fraction at 10% of the $30 billion (£19 billion) generated by Hollywood. Yet, the stars of the Indian silver screen, such as the inimitable Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Shan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are arguably just as famous as their Hollywood counterparts in homes all around the world.

Bollywood acting legend and industry insider Kajol, has, along with contemporaries such as Aishwarya Rai, become one of the industry’s biggest icons.

Comments Kajol: “The fact that our industry has not only survived, but has, in fact, thrived over the last century speaks volumes. I am grateful for the fact that I am here, at this time, and able to be even a small part of its fantastic accomplishments. From the first black and white film to modern-day 3D cinema, we have certainly come a long way. Whether Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan or even myself, we are known the world over due to the profession we are in – there is no corner of the world that Bollywood has not touched! And we have a 100 glorious years behind us to prove it.”

Adds Suhel Seth, India’s leading marketing guru and managing partner of Counselage India: “Bollywood has cast an indelible impression on the social mores, from our very psyche to its influence on consumerism in India and across the Indian Diaspora. This anniversary is not just 100 years of celebrating Indian Cinema… it is indeed a century of soft-power and the unabashed influence for the good that Indian cinema has had on audiences around the world”

“Bollywood has played a vital role in promoting the country brand of India,” adds UK-based soft power and communications expert, Farzana Baduel. “With China and India rising on the world stage due to their increasing economic prowess, India stands apart due to the rich cultural offerings it shares with international audiences, not least through the emotional connections the global audience has forged with legends of Indian cinema.”
