Emraan Hashmi prepares for new role in ‘Humari Adhuri Kahaani’

Humari Adhoori KahaaniBollywood actors have often mentioned meeting real-life people to get into the skin of the character. While Rani Mukerji interacted with Mumbai police officers for a cop’s role in Mardaani (2014), Vidya Balan met sleuths to play a detective in Bobby Jasoos (2014).

Now, Emraan Hashmi, too, is doing the same. The actor, who plays a restaurant chain owner in his next, Humari Adhuri Kahaani also starring Vidya Balan, has been meeting hotel employees to learn about the nitty-gritties of their profession.

The actor has been taking time out from his work schedules to visit different hotels in the city. “Every alternate day Emraan visits a hotel and he interacts with the management. He is trying to understand their behaviour towards the hotels’ staff and their conduct with the guests,” says a source close to the actor.

Emraan is also meeting a lot of hotel chain owners to know how they function and observe their body language. The actor is also not shying away from interacting with the waiters and is trying to understand how they manage a crisis situation at work.

“He is happy with whatever observations he has made so far and feels this experience will help him to play the role to perfection,” adds the source.

When contacted, Emraan confirmed the news saying, “Yes, I have been meeting a lot of hotel management people. It is always good to study real-life situations before playing a character.”

Humari Adhuri Kahani is directed by Mohit Suri and releases in UK cinemas through 20th Century Fox on 12th June 2015.

Q&A: Kangana Ranaut speaks about ‘Ungli’

Kangana RanautThe stage is set for this year’s explosive black comedy-drama, as five vigilantes take justice into their own hands in the dark and witty urban tale Ungli (Finger), which releases on 28th November 2014 through Reliance Entertainment in UK cinemas.

Produced by Dharma Productions, the film company helmed by supremo director and producer Karan Johar, the edgy film, with a noir comic twist, is set in a sprawling metropolis, where corruption, intimidation and violence are a way of life. A city that never sleeps, the underworld is at full force, led by a sinister mob that demands obedience and respect.

Enter five rebels, who decide that they have had enough of the corruption that has blighted their city, and so decide to unite and expose the corrupt through whatever means necessary. The only thing that stands in their path is a tenacious police officer named ‘Kale’, portrayed by veteran actor Sanjay Dutt.

Here Kangana Ranaut opens up about the film and more…

The film follows a group of five friends on their quest to stand up to corruption, how was it acting with Emraan, Randeep, Neil and Angad?
It was hilarious; they are a funny group of guys. After filming with them for a few weeks it started to feel like we had known each other all our lives.

This is your third film with Emraan Hashmi, how was it working with him again?

Emraan is a great guy; he is really down to earth and is a very diverse actor. We get on really well outside of work and having worked together in three films now we have become very comfortable around each other. It’s always fun to work with Emraan and I think our friendship in real life comes across in this film; it isn’t hard to act like friends when you actually are!

People have been praising your character as the heroine of the story, why do you think everyone loves your character so much?
With this type of film, men have always been at the forefront of fighting crime and standing up to corruption. I think by having a girl in the group it shows how times are changing, and that women can kick ass as well (laughs).

‘Ungli’ has attracted a lot of attention, why do you think people are so interested in this film?

I think ‘Ungli’ has a great team working on it, everyone is really focused on making this film the best it can be. It has everything that a great film needs; Rensil has done a fantastic job of combing humor and actually a really interesting message. People have been waiting for this film for years now and many didn’t think it would ever actually get released so now that a release date has been set, I think everyone is really excited to see the outcome.

“Men are Lazy Lads!” – Vidya Balan

GHANCHAKKAR_2nd_30x40_FINThat’s what Vidya Balan’s quirky song in Ghanchakkar says blatantly.

Now we all know that men are from Mars and women are from Venus and Ghanchakkar‘s new song ‘Lazy Lad’ explores the same concept further.

Picturised on Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan, the song sees Vidya list out the traits of men that women get most frustrated about like: being a couch potato, general lack of tardiness and how men can get easily distracted among others. The lively music video sees Vidya in her loud, fun Punjabi housewife avatar that has added to the film’s USP.

Vidya explains the concept behind the song saying, “I think that all of us know that boys, the lads are always so lazy to do anything. They just sit in front their television and just switch channels. It’s so frustrating and if a cricket match is on then you have had it. Lazy Lad the term was coined for men.”

Emraan too admits that men can be a little lackadaisical in doing things. “Most men are couch potatoes. When I am at home I pretty much do what I am doing in the video that we just shot. It’s just chilling in front of the television, switching channels and just sometime staring into nothing – I think that’s my best pass time. If I lock myself on the couch, I can go on for like 7-8 hours without doing anything. And I don’t hear sounds, just glue to the television.”

Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Ghanchakkar is set to release in UK cinemas on 28th June 2013.

Paying heed to his fans, producers Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj have released Emraan Hashmi’s version of Yaaram.

Emraan Hashmi-Vishal Bhardwaj’s reel ode to Gulzar!

Yaaram - Ek Thi DAIYAANBoth Vishal Bhardwaj and Emraan Hashmi are self-confessed fans of Gulzar’s works. In fact, Vishal and the veteran writer have worked together on several films and are known to be quite a winning combination too. But now the filmmaker has taken his adulation for Gulzar a step further.

A source reveals that in his upcoming film Ek Thi Daayan, the filmmaker has included a scene where Emraan will be paying an ode to the writer by reading out a few couplets from his book. Tanuj Garg (CEO Balaji Motion Pictures) shares, “It’s a house-party sequence where Kalki (Koechlin) coaxes Emraan to sing.

During the song, he lifts a book of poems by Gulzaarsaab and recites a few couplets from it. The book has Gulzarsaab on the cover too. It’s obviously Vishal paying an ode to his favourite. Gulzaarsaab is actually the lyricist of this song Yaarum too.”

Another on-set source reveals that when Emraan heard about reading the couplets from Gulzaar’s book, he was thrilled and revealed that he’s a fan of his works too.
