Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures UK will give Dharma Productions’ Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva the second widest-ever UK release for an Indian title. The Ayan Mukerji directorial is being released here from this Friday by Disney for 20th Century Studios and Star Studios.
This will be the second Indian release for Disney in the UK. The distribution arm of the studio has previously released Ahan Shetty starrer Tadap last year, which became the ninth highest-grossing Indian title at the UK Box Office in 2021. Films released by UTV Motion Pictures after the acquisition by Disney, such as UK blockbuster Dangal, did not use the studio’s distribution network.
Disney has confirmed to BollyNewsUK that the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer will release in around 215 locations across the UK and Ireland.
The widest-ever release for an Indian title remains with Paramount Pictures UK for Laal Singh Chaddha with 350 locations.
Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, all with English subtitles; with all versions certified with a 12A classification by the BBFC.
The Hindi version of the film will be releasing in both 2D and 3D versions. Select locations will show the film in 2D IMAX, such as the BFI IMAX in London.
Unlike recently released Indian titles such as Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, and K.G.F: Chapter 2, Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva will not have any pre-release previews on Thursday.
Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva, the opening chapter in India’s first original cinematic universe, the Āstraverse, is out in UK cinemas from tomorrow, 9th September 2022.
