Shibasish Sarkar, former CEO of Reliance Entertainment, who oversaw the releases of both Sooryavanshi and 83, exclusively told BollyNewsUK: “UK is an extremely important market for Indian films, especially Hindi films. Between November and December we released two important films Sooryavanshi & then 83. Sooryavanshi ended up with a box office of £584k. 83 is still running in the theatres. We are extremely proud to be associated with Sooryavanshi and the love and affection which it received from not only Indian audiences but also from mainstream audiences at large.”

The list of top ten Indian films at the UK box office is compiled by Comscore and considers all box office gross earned between 1.01.2021 – 6.01.2022. With the limited release of Hindi films in 2021 owing to the Coronavirus pandemic, the list also features prominent Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films, and is dominated by Punjabi releases.

Big budget Hindi films such as Radhe (Zee Studios), Antim (Zee Studios), Bunty aur Babli 2 (Yash Raj Films), Bellbottom (Pooja Entertainment), and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (T-Series) failed to make the list, even though they made an impact at the domestic box office in India.

Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1, the Telugu Allu Arjun starrer, came up at number ten with £161,351.
