Bollywood royalty Katrina Kaif unveiled her wax figure at Madame Tussauds London yesterday.

“We have a long and strong relationship with the Indian film industry and our Bollywood figures are hugely popular with guests,” commented Madame Tussauds London’s General Manager, Ben Sweet.

He continued: “We are delighted to welcome Katrina to the ever growing Bollywood A-list here, the first to be featured in a glamorous new setting where guests can get up close with some of the biggest film stars in the world, from Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, to Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit-Nene”.

Katrina’s figure was created by a team of 20 sculptors and artists over a four month period, using hundreds of precise measurements taken at a sitting in Mumbai and cost £150,000 to create.

Katrina Kaif to launch her wax figure in London on Friday, 27th March

Bollywood superstar Katrina Kaif will descend into London this week to launch her wax figure at Madame Tussauds on Friday, 27th March 2015.

The Bang Bang actress won a public poll last year, beating Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, to become the next Bollywood star to have a wax figure made in her likeness for the world-famous tourist attraction.

Confirmed: Katrina Kaif to join Bollywood line up at Madame Tussauds, London

After winning a public vote for fans to choose the next Bollywood actress to be featured at Madame Tussauds London, the world famous attraction today confirmed that Katrina Kaif will be joining the A-list line up next year.

“Our first Bollywood figure was decided by public vote when veteran superstar, Amitabh Bachchan, was portrayed in 2000,” commented Nicole Fenner, PR Manager for Madame Tussauds London. “Now, almost fifteen years and seven wax figures later, the fans have once again decided on who they want to see here – after a very close contest, Katrina Kaif will be the next Bollywood start to join our line up. We are delighted she has agreed to work with us to create her wax likeness and look forward to revealing the figure to the public in Spring 2015,” Nicole continued.

Katrina Kaif, said: “I am extremely excited that Madame Tussauds London will be creating my wax figure and the fact that fans were involved in the decision makes it even more special. It’s an amazing honour to be asked and to be featured alongside icons of the Indian film industry is humbling. I can’t wait to start work on the creation now and to meeting myself in wax next year!”

Katrina Kaif holds eyes against her own as a colour reference for Madame Tussauds London's sculptors to get them spot on for her wax figure, coming in 2015[5]Katrina has collaborated closely with the sculptors and artists to decide a dancing pose and outfit for the figure, having given a sitting in Mumbai where all the measurements required to create an accurate likeness were gathered. A team of 20 artists will work on the figure, which will cost £150,000 to produce, and completion is scheduled for Spring 2015 when it is hoped Katrina will unveil the figure herself at the legendary London attraction.

Madame Tussauds has worked closely with the Indian film industry over the last fifteen years and the Bollywood area in the London attraction is one of its most popular, featuring figures of Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Amitabh Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor in a colourful, themed set. Since the introduction of the first Bollywood film star, Amitabh Bachchan in 2000, Asian visitors to the attraction have increased and the Bollywood factor has spread worldwide with a number of Madame Tussauds attractions around the world featuring Indian film stars.

Andre Timmins, Director of the International Indian Film Academy, added: “We are proud to have had an association with Madame Tussauds since the inception of IIFA in London in 2000. This relationship and association with the Bollywood wax figures over the years with our support has been great.  In particular with IIFA travelling the world raising the outreach of Indian cinema internationally, we feel it has contributed to the popularity of the figures and we are confident that this will be enhanced with this latest addition of Katrina Kaif.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan visits Madame Tussauds London

Kareena Kapoor Madame Tussauds LondonAward winning Bollywood actress, Kareena Kapoor Khan, recently visited her staggeringly lifelike wax figure at Madame Tussauds London and gave its glamorous new look her seal of approval after donating a stunning new outfit. The figure has undergone a dazzling restyle and now wears a beautiful red sari with gold waist detailing and jewellery inspired by the outfit worn by Kareena in the film Ra.One while performing the song ‘Chammak Chalo’. Fans can visit Kareena’s figure for a limited time this summer, before it returns to Madame Tussauds Blackpool in the Autumn.

On seeing her redressed wax figure, Khan said: “The sari looks really pretty, really spectacular – and I always think that the figure’s eyes are just like mine.”

She added, “I wanted my fans to see my figure in an outfit that was known and loved from one of my films, and my favourite outfit to wear out is a sari, so I jumped at the chance to redress my Madame Tussauds figure in one. This is a moment I’ll treasure forever.”

Kareena’s figure was originally launched wearing a striking black outfit with silver jewelled embillishment. The actress gave our creative team a sitting in Mumbai, where they took hundreds of precise measurements and reference photographs, and was closely involved in styling the overall look of her figure. In all, the figure took the talented team four months to complete at a cost of £150,000.

Fans can visit Kareena’s redressed figure in our incredibly popular Bollywood area, alongside four other major names in Indian cinema – Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan. The world famous attraction recently gave fans the opprtunity to choose which female Bollywood star (between Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone) will be honoured with a wax figure next year via an online public poll, and will announce the results soon.
