Lyca Productions’ Ponniyin Selvan: I has become the highest grossing Tamil title ever, and the highest grossing Indian film at the UK Box Office in 2022 after just its second weekend.
The film directed by Mani Ratnam broke opening weekend records for an Indian title at the UK Box Office in 2022 upon its release on 30th September.
Released by DG Tech, the film is a Tamil-language epic period action drama film starring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayaram.
In its second weekend, the film showed in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi in 91 locations in the UK and 17 locations in Ireland.
In the UK, it collected £188,995.81, with a high site average of £2,076.88 while in Ireland it grossed £10,297.25, with a site average of £605.72. The UK released dropped to No.8 on the Box Office chart for the weekend of 7th-9th October.
Disney’s Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva has slowed down considerably in its 5th weekend, with only 11 locations showing the film, collecting just £1,905.30, with a site average of £173.21. The total gross of the film stands at £1,032,213.85. It remains the highest grossing Hindi film of the year so far, and only one of three titles crossing the £1M mark since the pandemic started.
Reliance Entertainments’ Vikram Vedha collected £28,526 in its second weekend from 32 locations, with a site average of £891.44. The total gross of the film stands at £217,950.
Amitabh Bachchan starrer Goodbye released by Zee Studios opened on 7th October, collecting £14,810 in its debut weekend from 32 locations, with a site average of £462.82. In Ireland, the film released in 2 locations, raking in £720.52 with a site average of £360.26.
Other Indian titles which opened last weekend include: Godfather; £93,212 from 44 locations, Ghost; £13,406 from 12 locations, and Main Hoon Moosa; £3,508.82 from 36 locations.
