RRR made its debut on Number 2, the first for an Indian film, at the UK Box Office for the weekend of 25.03-27.03.
The fictional drama collected £650,204 from 160 locations, with a site average of £4,064, making it the highest opening weekend for an Indian film in the pandemic era. It released in UK cinemas by Dreamz Entertainment Limited.
The film took in an additional £43,383 from 12 sites, with a site average of £3,615 from Ireland, where Akshaya Traders distributed the film.
The opening weekend includes limited evening previews from Thursday, 24th March 2022 with an impressive gross of £238,313. It was released here in five Indian languages, including at selected IMAX sites across the UK.
Directed by India’s biggest director SS Rajamouli of Baahubali fame, the cast of his new film includes Indian superstars Ram Charan and Jr NTR, as well as Bollywood legend Ajay Devgn, and global talent Alia Bhatt. Also starring are British actors Ray Stevenson and Olivia Morris, Irish actor Alison Doody, and American actor Edward Sonnenblick.
It has collected $65.6 million worldwide in its opening weekend, including international previews, becoming the Number 1 release of the weekend globally.
Zee Studiosl’ release The Kashmir Files raked in £58,140 from 78 sites in its third weekend, with a site average of £745 – a remarkable reduction from the previous two weekends . As the film has become an all-time blockbuster in India, the distributor also increased locations of the controversial film in the UK. It was initially shown across 18 sites in its opening weekend and 52 sites in its second weekend. The total gross stands at £373,082.
Paramount International’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring global talent Alia Bhatt, is still the highest grossing Indian film at the UK Box Office in the pandemic era. It collected £16,334 from 30 locations in its fifth weekend, with a site average of £544. The total gross stands at £684,973.
Cinestaan AA Distributors’ release Bachchan Pandey, starring Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Kriti Sanon, took £10,466 from 23 sites in its second weekend, with a site average of £455. The total gross of the film stands at £101,876, making it one of the lowest grossing films for Kumar.
