Paramount Pictures UK’s second Bollywood release, Gangubai Kathiawadi, made an impressive debut at the UK box office. The film has been certified with a 15 rating by the British Board of Film Classification and released nationwide on 25th February 2022.
The film brought Paramount a collection of £243,848 (including limited previews) from 150 sites in its opening weekend (25.02- 27.02), with a site average of £1,626.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial starring Alia Bhatt in the titular role has collected higher gross in its opening weekend than the last two hit Hindi films, Sooryavanshi and 83, making Gangubai Kathiwadi the most successful Hindi debut since the start of the pandemic.
Telegu film Bheemla Nayak starring Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati opened in 35 sites earning £146,671, with an impressive location average of £4,191. The film is released in the UK by Dreamz Entertainment Limited. The film opened in the Republic of Ireland in 8 sites collecting £10,878 over the first three days, released by Akshaya Traders. In Northern Ireland, Qualite Entertainments LTD released the film in 2 locations, bringing in £1,626.
The highly-anticipated Tamil action thriller Valimai, starring Ajith Kumar and produced by Boney Kapoor, earned £112,670 from 57 sites. Produced by Zee Studios, the film released in the UK by DG Tech LTD. The film took an additional £8,182 from 7 sites in Ireland, where Akshaya Traders released it in cinemas.
White Hill Studios released Punjabi film Aaja Mexico Challiye starring Ammy Virk, which collected £88,098 from 54 sites in its opening weekend.
Malayalam film Aaraattu, released by RFT Films Ltd on 18th February, collected £ 2,061 from 21 locations in its second weekend, bringing the total to £ 83,842.
Punjabi Film Jatt Brothers only took £1,753 from 8 locations in its opening weekend. The film is released by Rising Star Entertainment.
