Bollywood has long enjoyed a love affair with London, with over 30 films recently being shot in the world-famous capital city. Such cult classics as Cocktail, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Desi Boyz, Kabhi Khushi Khabhi Gham and Namaste London to name a few have all been filmed in iconic London locations. Now adding to this stellar line-up is the eagerly anticipated new romantic comedy film Total Siyapaa.
Total Siyapaa has the notable honour of being the first Bollywood offering to be filmed entirely in London, with scenes being shot in Wimbledon, Albert Bridge, Trafalgar Square, Earl’s Court and Tower Hill. In addition, the film has been produced by local man Chris Bunyan.
Total Siyapaa is an urban-ist rom-com with the feel of a Brit-Asian cross-over film, and is produced by Reliance Entertainment, Friday Filmworks and AKA Films. The story is a rollercoaster ride of hilarious mishaps which ensue when Pakistani rockstar Aman (played by the multi-talented actor and musician Ali Zafar) meets his British-Sikh love interest Asha’s (played by Yami Gautam of Vicky Donor fame) battle-axe Punjabi mother (Kiron Kher). The film uncannily captures the differences between India and Pakistan and hopes to foster a deeper understanding and togetherness between the two countries. Total Siyapaa also sees real life couple Anupam Kher (Silver Linings Playbook, Bend It Like Beckham) and Kiron Kher come together on-screen for the very first time.
The film is directed by E Niwas (My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves) and the script is penned by the critically-acclaimed Neeraj Pandey, who is famed for his award-winning dramas A Wednesday and Special Chabbis.
Total Siyapaa is produced by Reliance Entertainment, Friday Filmworks and AKA Films and releases on Friday 7th March 2014 through Reliance Entertainment worldwide.
