“I look forward to shooting my next film in London” – Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan - The HippodromeThe promotional tour for one of the most eagerly awaited Bollywood sequels, Race 2, kick-started its worldwide campaign in the City of London. A Tips Industries Ltd and UTV Motion Pictures co-production, Race 2’s leading man – the Nawab of Bollywood, Saif Ali Khan – descended upon the capital in regal pomp and glamour, to promote the upcoming mega blockbuster.

The luxe venue welcomed superstar, Saif Ali Khan, alongside Race 2 Creative Producer, Jay Shewakramani; Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, Adrian Wootton; and Head of India at London & Partners, Sunil Dwivedi. The Press Conference was hosted by President of National Indian Students Union (NISU) UK, Sanam Arora.

Talking about the sequel to UK hit Race (2008), Saif Ali Khan said: “The main challenge would probably lie with the script writer and the production house to try and make a better movie than the first one.”

Khan also recalled how he had suggested to his producers to make a sequel with him and Akshay Kumar in the 90’s.
“Sequels have become quite fashionable now if a film does well. In the 90’s, I did a film called Main Khiladi Tu Anari. I suggested to the producers that we should make a sequel. They told me that we don’t make sequels in India and that it was a very silly idea and I should not mention it again. Now it seems, as people follow trends, almost every film that does well gets a sequel. Not every film deserves a sequel as some stories are complete in themselves. However, this is a genre and script that lends itself well to a sequel.”

Speaking about playing the same role again, the Cocktail star said: “Mentally, it is much easier to play the same role because you have done it before but physically, it was more demanding playing the character as there is more action.”

The 42-year-old actor also spoke about his most recently repeated female co-star, Deepika Padukone and said: “I have never thought about our pairing getting repetitive. I think it’s an advantage because it’s a successful pairing. People still like to see us together. However, I agree that it is time that I also work with different actresses.”

Saif, who has filmed parts of his productions Love Aaj Kal, Agent Vinod and Cocktail in London, also said that he would like to shoot in the British capital again. “I enjoy interacting with the press here more than anywhere else. I think, we have a lot in common. There are many benefits of shooting in the UK. One of the drawbacks, of course, is that once you have filmed here, it might be difficult to shoot something new. I don’t agree with that though because there are many sights to London. It’s an amazing city and very multifaceted. I look forward to shooting my next film here.”

Race 2 releases in UK cinemas on 25th January 2012.
