Veteran actress Sridevi’s comeback film English Vinglish has got the whole industry talking about her heartwarming performance. The film has released today and the premiere of the film was a grand event.
It is said that the event was one of the biggest premieres of the year as it was a star-studded night. All the celebrities of B-town attended the event to watch Sridevi’s flawless performance and wish her all the luck.
The guest list included Amitabh & Jaya Bachchan, Dr Nene & Madhuri, Yash Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Tabu, Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha and Kangana Ranaut among others.
Reviewing the film, Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian described English Vinglish as “very amiable, feelgood entertainment, featuring some broad comedy and stereotypes, yet with a notably bold repudiation of homophobia. An undemanding picture that goes down as well as the heroine’s tasty ladoos.”
Earlier this month, at the screening of English Vinglish at the Toronto International Film Festival, the movie received a standing ovation by the global audience present there.
English Vinglish is a story of Shashi, a woman who struggles to learn the English language and overcome the insecurities she faces in the foreign land. The film is shot mostly in New York and captures her transformational journey.
Directed by debutant director Gauri Shinde, Eros International’s English Vinglish is out now in UK cinemas.
