Has Ranbir Kapoor ensured the release date of his upcoming film Barfi, is postponed to facilitate a smooth opening for “close friend” Deepika Padukone’s next, Cocktail?
The buzz in B-Town suggests as much. Barfi, directed by Anurag Basu, was scheduled to release on July 13, the same day as Cocktail. Basu’s film will now hit the screens on August 31. Technical reasons have been officially forwarded for the decision.
However, the industry buzz is that Ranbir has requested Basu to postpone Barfi so as to avert a clash with Cocktail.
“Reuniting after their past spat that had followed a brief affair on the sets of Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming film Yeh Jawani Hai
Postponing Barfi obviously meant moving the film to August since every Friday in mid-2012 is packed with biggies. Deewani, Ranbir and Deepika seem to have become the new Best Friends Forever (BFF) duo in Bollywood. Since the hype about Cocktail, which stars Deepika and Saif Ali Khan, is not as much as that of Barfi, Ranbir probably feels releasing his film on the same day could hurt the prospects of Deepika’s film,” an industry insider said.
“After July 13, David Dhawan’s Chashme Buddoor remake is slated for July 27. Ekta Kapoor’s Kya Super Kool Hain Hum is scheduled to open on August 2, while the Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer Ek Tha Tiger opens on Eid. The next best Friday is only in the end of August,” the source added.
There is another twist in the tale. August 31 was originally meant to see a big clash between Shirish Kunder’s Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha-starrer 3D film, Joker, and Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt’s Raaz 3D, which stars Emraan Hashmi and Bipasha Basu. Now that Barfi is releasing on that date, Kunder’s film would probably be postponed.
