Dev Anand cremated in London

London 10th December 2011: More than 100 people have attended a funeral for Bollywood legend Dev Anand at a small chapel in London. Pallbearers also had to push their way through reporters and fans bearing tribute banners as Anand’s casket was then taken to the Putney Vale Crematorium in west London for the cremation on Saturday.

Anand died of cardiac arrest in a hotel in the capital on December 3 after traveling to the UK for a medical checkup. He was 88 years old.

Famed for his roles in dozens of movies, including Jewel Thief and Guide, the veteran Indian actor, director and producer was working up to the last minute, with a new script in the works.

The film star’s ashes will be returned to India for immersion burial in the Godavari river.
