Interview: Surj from RDB talks about ‘Tamanche Pe Disco’

Saif Ali Khan with RDB in Tamanche Pe Disco Song from Bullett RajaInternational urban music artists RDB are set to raise the adrenaline level with their latest track in Fox Star Studios high-rolling, high-stakes must-see action entertainer, Bullett Raja titled ‘Tamanche Pe Disco’.

Here Surj from RDB talks about the song and working with Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha:

How did you get on board with Tamanche Pe Disco?
It all started with a call from Sameer Gogate, who put us in touch with one of the producers of Bullett Raja, Nitin Ahuja. He had requested a track from our music bank given the short deadline. As we do, we showcased them a couple of different numbers but a pre-made version of Tamanche Pe Disco was selected.

How was it working with Saif and Sonakshi?
These superstars are very grounded. Saif was extremely focused on how he wanted the music and had a real flare for hearing a hit! After seeing our takes at the shoot, he insisted we did one scene with him for the song and it was a pleasure working with him. Sonakshi, as well as being stunning in person, was very humble and great to interact with.

Sonakshi and SaifThe song has a very rustic yet a very contemporary beat, what was the concept behind it?
We tried a slightly different approach for this song and used the lyrical knowledge of Raftaar to give it more of a UP flavour. The music still has the signature RDB sound.

What was your inspiration for the track?
The theme of the movie had some part to play with the composition of the track as well as the trademark UP gangster lifestyle.

How did Raftaar and Nindy come onboard?
The song required female vocals and who better to suit than Nindy Kaur. Raftaar not only added to the theme of the song with his lyrics but uplifted the track further by adding his rap performance to parts of the track. Nindy and Raftaar are a killer combination.

What were some fun moments on the set while shooting the song?
Every shoot is a great and unique experience, but I think this one was the fastest arranged shoot ever. The track was made within three days after which the whole shoot was arranged in two. Within a week the track was composed, paid for, excepted and shot. Only in India!

How does the track compare to what you have done earlier?
Tamanche Pe Disco represents the first time RDB has collaborated with Saif. The track also moves away from our trademark Bhangra / Punjabi beat as we experiment with a UP flavour so our fans are in for a real treat!

RDB in the song Tamanche Pe Disco from Bullett RajaWho are the key musical influencers in your life?
We would definitely say our father, our late brother Kuly and each other in the team.

What are the future projects in Bollywood that you are working on?
We have five upcoming projects, two of which are with new up and coming casts and the other three are with A-list stars. Our main highlight is that we are now officially releasing our collaboration track with T-Pain on the 21st of November with Universal in India and Three Records internationally. Our Album is also set to release in December.

Fans Urged To Donate To Brain Tumour UK Charity In Memory Of The Superstar Musician Kuly from RDB

Fans, supporters and the music industry can pay their final respects to Kuly Ral, one third of super Urban-Bhangra group RDB, when his devoted family and Three Records label colleagues will set up a Memorial Page to enable people to donate to the Brain Tumour UK charity in his memory.

Kuly, the eldest of the three brothers from RDB, sadly lost his battle with brain cancer on the 22nd of May 2012 in Houston, Texas, USA. He had been undergoing specialist treatment to try to cure the disease in the United States.

But it is for his musical creativity and dedicated work ethic that Kuly will forever be remembered. His brother Manj remembers him fondly, saying: “Kuly was the most creative person I had ever known. I was privileged and honoured to learn everything I know today from him. He was my mentor as well as my older brother and I will always follow the example he setand keep making him proud of me.”

Brother Surj added: “He always encouraged people around him to work harder, achieve more and as he would always say… keep breaking the boundaries. His incredible work ethic and legacy will continue to motivate us to move forward and help achieve the dreams he had for RDB and Three Records. We thank family, friends and most importantly our fans for helping us get through this tough time. Thank you.”

Fellow group member and sister-in-law Nindy Kaur says: “Although Kuly was my brother-in-law I always looked at him as my own brother. He was always fair and never took sides with anyone, he looked at logic and people’s feelings and that was the one thing I loved the most about him. I’m going to miss Kuly, my biggest fan in the studio, my brother and my decision-making partner.”

As well as his passion for music, the concept of ‘Seva’ (selfless giving) and education were very important parts of his life. A humanitarian, Kuly always wanted to give back to society and encouraged others to do the same. Along with a zest for life and charity, he also always wanted to continue learning and expanding his horizons.

Bollywood Hit Makers RDB and Parichay Perform For Legendary Actress Sri Devi at Music Launch of Char Din Ki Chandni!

After the blockbuster success of Yamla Pagla Deewana, director Samir Karnik has once again called upon the internationally acclaimed urban music band RDB along with the band’s latest music sensation Parichay to repeat their musical hit-pair success story for his forthcoming film Char Din Ki Chandni starring Tusshar Kapoor and Kulraj Randhawa, releasing 9th March 2012.

RDB, who have previously composed tracks for hit Bollywood films such as Namastey London, Singh is Kinng, Kambakkhtq Ishq, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Speedy Singhs, have produced the track ‘Chandni Oh Meri Chandni’ – a new version of the 1990’s chartbuster Chandni – for Char Din Ki Chandni. The lead vocals of the new version are by the multi-talented international music artist Parichay of Yamla Pagla Deewana fame, and Sunidhi Chauhan. The remixed version of the track is sung by Parichay and Bollywood songstress Nindy Kaur, famed for her edgy urban-bhangra infused songs and her collaborations on some of Bollywood’s biggest films including ‘Aloo Chaat’. ‘Kambakkth Ishq’ and ‘Speedy Singhs’.

RDB and Parichay performed exclusively to the track at the film’s music launch event in Mumbai earlier this week, for cinema queen Sri Devi and veteran Rishi Kapoor who attended the star-studded event. Also in attendance were the lead stars from the film Kulraaj and Tusshar Kapoor along with other Bollywood icons and music industry moguls.

‘Chandni Oh Meri Chandni’ promises to be a fitting tribute to the original classic composed by Shiv-Hari. Parichay explained: ‘Chandni Oh Meri Chandni’ has turned out just the way we wanted it to be. There’s great rhythm to it and also a soulful melody. We have all been waiting to dedicate this song to Sri Devi, and we are thoroughly looking forward to performing in front of her and Rishi Kapoor.” The song is RDB’s most ambitious project, as they channel their creative talents into producing the official soundtrack for Bollywood’s latest take on a classic love story that is ‘Chaar Din Ki Chandni’.

Chaar Din Ki Chandni will be directed by Samir Karnik and will be in cinemas on 9th March 2012.
