Ekta, Mohit and Chetan collaborate on ‘Half Girlfriend’

Half Girlfriend The director of Aashiqui 2, writer of 2 States and producer of Ek Villain have come together to bring audiences another love story, Half Girlfriend.

Balaji and Mohit Suri who struck gold with the 100 crore hit Ek Villain team up again, after their colossal hit, this time with celebrated author, Chetan Bhagat, who is riding high on 5 Point Someone and 2 States.

Based on the love that a non English-speaking Bihari boy Madhav has for an English-speaking girl Riya, the interestingly titled film talks of changing modern relationships.

“I am delighted to team up with one of the most talented modern directors, Mohit Suri and Ekta Kapoor, an iconic producer who has understood the Indian pulse like nobody else. Between our respective readers and audiences, we will cover most of India’s film watching population,” said Chetan Bhagat. 

“Mohit and Ekta’s belief in the story, proven by their announcing the film before the book releases, only shows their strong conviction in the subject. Half Girlfriend is already one of the most awaited films and we will make sure we live up to the hype,” added the award-winning author. 

“Spielberg said when he was a kid, there was no collaboration; it was him with a camera bossing his friends around. But as an adult, filmmaking is all about appreciating the talents of the people you surround yourself with and knowing you could never have made any of these films by yourself,” said Mohit Suri.

Synopsis: ‘2 States’

There is excitement all around as 2 States produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiawala is set to release in UK cinemas on 18th April 2014.

2 States, the movie is based on Chetan Bhagat’s real life love story and on his best-selling novel 2 States: The Story of My Marriage.

The rom-com is directed by Abhishek Varman and stars Dharma favourite Alia Bhatt and Gunday star Arjun Kapoor in lead roles.

Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. Girl’s family has to love the boy. Boy’s family has to love the girl. Girl’s family has to love the boy’s family. Boy’s family has to love the girl’s family.

And if the boy and girl still love each other, they get married.

2 States is a story about a journey of one such couple, Krish Malhotra and Ananya Swaminathan. They meet at the IIM-Ahmedabad and during the course they fall in love. Complications arise after the course comes to an end and they decide to get married.

Krish and Ananya belong to two different states of India. Krish, a North Indian Punjabi boy from Delhi, and Ananya, a Tamilian Brahmin from Chennai. They take a conscious decision; till their parents don’t agree they won’t get married. Everything goes down hill when the parents meet. There is a cultural clash and the parents oppose the wedding.

To convert their love story into a love marriage, the couple faces a tough battle in front of them. For its easy to fight and rebel, but much harder to convince.

Will Krish and Ananya’s love for each other sustain the battles? Will they manage to convince their parents and make it to their wedding? The film thus is a humorous take on inter community marriages in India.

 Disney UTV will release the film in UK cinemas on 18th April.

9. Abhishek Varman

Abhishek Varman is making his debut as a director with the film based on Chetan Bhagat’s best-selling novel but has been working behind the scenes for a few years. Abhishek was an assistant director on My Name Is Khan (like Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan) and was also the creative director of Student Of The Year.

It could be anything from hairstyle, spectacles, outfits or could be the design and patterns right from the subdued colours and styling for the character of Krish Malhotra, played by Arjun Kapoor. All these aspects have been taken from how Abhishek Varman the director of the film is in real life.

Produced by Sajid Nadiawala and Karan Johar, the film will release in UK cinemas on 18th April through Disney UTV.
