Interview: Ali Zafar talks about #TeefaInTrouble

Ahead of the release of action-comedy, Teefa in Trouble, lead star Ali Zafar made a grand appearance in the UK after two exhilarating days in Dubai, interacting with fans and well wishers during several public appearances as part of the Teefa UK Takeover.

Ali sat down with BollyNewsUK Editor Sunny Malik to talk about his Pakistani film debut, setting up his production house and how he didn’t start working in Pakistan just because of the ban in India…

How has the transition from Indian cinema to Pakistani films been for you and how did the film happen?
Well, I would say it was almost like magic. When a film has to come about, it makes room for itself and everything just falls in place at the right time. I wanted to play a part in rebuilding Pakistani cinema and the industry. While I was working in India for all those years, I was always hoping and wishing for our industry in Pakistan tom attain a similar level and standard. I wanted to see content coming out of Pakistan of international caliber. Unfortunately, mostly we fell short of it over the years. This is an attempt to get there, break barriers and set benchmarks. I want to play a part in rebuilding the industry. With this, I want to give the industry and everyone around the globe a film that they would be proud of.

We’ve seen you in a lot of rom-com films in Bollywood. Teefa in Trouble has a lot of action too. Was that something you’ve always wanted to do?
I’ve always been an athlete and sportsman in addition to a huge action buff. I’ve always wanted to do action in the past but never got the chance to do it. My director, Ahsan Rahim, loves action too and we’d often discuss comic books and action films. We both wanted do action sequences in the film that have never been seen before in Pakistani cinema. I trained for about two-three months in mixed martial arts.

You’ve co-written the story with your younger brother and director. What kind of input did you bring to the script?
It was a very interesting and cosy process. We locked ourselves in my basement studio for seven days. I had already written the first draft by then but in those seven days we came up with the first draft of screenplay and dialogues. Our wavelength was very similar as Ahsan directed my first music video ‘Channo’. We’ve always wanted to do our first film together. My younger brother Daniyal studied film making in New York. We took his input as well, which was a fun process altogether.

You’ve not just written the film and acted in it but are also producing it under your home production studio that you’ve set up. How did that happen?
If you want to do something but can’t get it through someone else, then you have to do it yourself. The dream was to have my own production house to make films and music. This is the most expensive film to come out of Pakistan. I’ve received immense love from my fans I believe that you have to pay back somehow. This is my way of giving back. The idea was never to make money but make that one film that is avant-garde in many ways.

Is it not risky putting your own money behind the most expensive Pakistani film ever?
I did not want any creative interference, which is why I didn’t just get someone else to produce the film. My first music video was also made from my own money. There is a word in Urdu “barkat” (blessing). The money earned by “barkat”, which is hard-earned, has something else to it. I also didn’t want to be dependent on anyone. I also felt that no one else would’ve been willing to take such a big risk financially. However, I believe you can only achieve great success by taking great risks. If you play it big, hopefully, you are rewarded big too.

Some people may accuse you of using Pakistani cinema simply because of the blanket ban of Pakistani actors in Bollywood as you’ve previously never worked in Pakistani films before…
My studio was set up about two years ago and the process of writing the film started approximately five ears ago. The idea first came to me while I was filming for Chashme Badoor in Goa around 2013. It all into fell into place much later. It’s not like I started thinking about doing something in Pakistan only after what happened in India.

Although you aren’t working in Bollywood anymore, their biggest studio is releasing your film internationally…
My film is very entertaining with comedy, action, romance etc. but it also has a very important message in it. I feel my work should also engage people to think about certain things in life since the world has become very materialistic. I believe a mutual admiration and trust was earned after I worked with Yash Raj Films on a few projects. I had actually discussed my ideas with Aditya Chopra quite a few times. YRF’s reaction was very flattering once they saw the content. Then it just happened and we partnered up. I had envisioned my film with the same people that are now involved in it and Yash Raj Films were one of them. When magic is meant to happen, it just happens.

Directed by Ahsan Rahim and starring, written and produced by Ali Zafar himself, Teefa in Trouble will be released in cinemas globally on 20th July 2018, distributed in UK cinemas by Yash Raj Films.

John Abraham returns to UK screens with Satyameva Jayate

John Abraham is back doing what he does best… in an heart racing action thriller that will have you questioning right and wrong. In true vigilante movie style, Abraham launches on to the screen as a kind, caring and immensely moral character, he has loved and lost… and now wants the corrupt to pay.

In a city of 200,000 policemen tasked with the safety of the people of Mumbai, a significant number don’t necessarily have the “cleanest” of vardis (uniforms).

When four such ‘dirty’ police inspectors are burnt alive in a series of merciless killings, the entire police force is rocked with terror. The media is looking for answers. The public is on the fence over these killings.

John AbrahamThese crimes reflect Vir (John Abraham) as a person. Bold, Calculating, and Unapologetic. He’s not scared of killing, or dying. It was clear that he had an agenda. A reason, a drive behind these deaths and he was far from done.

Fearing the next attack, the Commissioner calls upon one of their best bet to catch Vir. DCP Shivansh (Manoj Bajpayee) is what a proper policeman looks like. Strong, Courageous, Patriotic and most importantly, “Clean.” And of course, he’s the best at what he does.

What follows is a succession of events that will test his Probity to the fullest. He is up against Vir, who is a vigilante and will stop at nothing to complete his mission.

The trailer to Satyameva Jayate is a power packed three-minute ride… reminding audiences what makes Abraham such a great action hero. Adding more colour and depth to the film are two fabulous tracks released so far.

‘Dilbar ‘sung by Neha Kakkad is a reprise of the original track from the film Sirf Tum, and the new version sees former Big Boss star Norah Fatehi showing off some serious moves and helping the video hit over 76 million views in two weeks!

The second track ‘Paniyon Sa’ shows Abraham’s softer side with co-star Aisha Sharma. This beautiful track features the vocals of Atif Aslam and Tulsi Kumar.

Directed by Milap Milan Zaveri and produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar and Nikhhil Advani, Satyameva Jayate stars John Abraham, Manoj Bajpayee, Aisha Sharma and  Amruta Khanvilkar.

The film releases nationwide on 15th August and is distributed by Rising Star Entertainment in the UK.

Yash Raj Films to release Teefa in Trouble in UK cinemas

thumbnail_Teefa_in_TroubleLightingale Productions, spearheaded by superstar Ali Zafar, is proud to announce the first ever collaboration with one of the world’s biggest and most well respected film studios who have brought audiences with some of the most iconic films of its time. Yash Raj Films (YRF) have teamed up with Lightingale Productions for an exclusive international theatrical distribution of Teefa In Trouble.

Speaking about this milestone, Ali Zafar has said, “I have always believed that with faith, the right intentions, goodwill and hard work, you can achieve all of your dreams. Today I feel deeply humbled to have a huge dream fulfilled. To take our cinema global in the best possible manner and to do it with a company that is not just a company but an idea… that love transcends all. My relationship with YRF goes back to 2010 when I signed up for ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’, followed by ‘Kill Dil’. I have some of my best memories and experiences on those films. I still remember the time when the late Yashji asked me at lunch one day: “Oye to Lahore to ain, yeh kheer zuroor try kareen”. “You are from Lahore, you must try this “kheer (rice pudding)”! I thought to myself that the man who has induced such sweetness in our lives through his stories is making sure that I leave with an even sweater taste in my mouth. It was surreal. But what is dreamlike is that the company he formed with so much love is now going to be spreading the same passion that we have tried to create in our first film to the entire world, making sure the film is seen globally. Thank you Yashji and Aditya Chopra, for your faith and guidance. More than an inspiration, you are an institution that nurtures talent like no one. I would deeply like to honour and thank Mr. Avtar Panesar for taking that belief and trust forward by choosing us as YRF’s first of sorts to officially distribute the film in international markets. I can’t wait for the world to watch Teefa In Trouble!”

Avtar Panesar, Vice President – International Operations Yash Raj Films said: “We at YRF share a strong and seasoned relationship with Ali Zafar having produced two movies and a music album with him; we’d like to think of YRF being his home in India. It was a natural progression, taking that relationship to the next level with Ali as Producer with Teefa In Trouble. We have never distributed any film from Pakistan or from any other part of the world earlier; And are extremely selective with the films we handle for our friends in India, we are very excited to see what Ahsan Rahim the director and Ali Zafar as producer and actor have done with Teefa In Trouble. It really was a no brainer for us. This certainly puts Ali in the great company of star producers! We’re looking forward to making this the first of many.”

Founded in 1970 by the great, Late Yash Chopra, Yash Raj Films is regarded as one of India’s oldest and most respected storytellers with India’s most enviable film catalogue in the entertainment business. YRF’s top grossers have already placed the company in the big league of producers worldwide, making it one of the largest filmmaking entities in the nation. Indeed, Teefa In Trouble joins the league of Yash Raj Films’ distribution portfolio of some of the region’s biggest blockbusters including Race 3, Tiger Zinda Hai, Dhoom 3, Tiger Zinda Hai, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Sultan and Ali Zafar’s Kill Dil to name a few. The trailer for Teefa In Trouble to be released soon will be will be screened across 1200 plus screens in the international market.

The summer blockbuster Teefa In Trouble stars the leading multi-talented superstar Ali Zafar and introduces Maya Ali to the silver screen. Directed by Ahsan Rahim, the movie is set to release on 20th July 2018 across Pakistan and internationally.

Teefa In Trouble is packed with action, romance and comedy. The feature film has been produced by Lightingale Productions.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan talks about his UK fans

Shah Rukh Khan is a household name in India and is probably the most well-known Bollywood actor worldwide.

While he has a wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Marylebone and breaks UK box office records with his films, he attributes his success here to the older generation of Bollywood fans.

Speaking to BollyNewsUK, he said: “I think, a few generations have grown up here watching my movies. Today’s children may feel differently but most of my fans who I meet here, tell me that their Mom and Dad like me a lot (laughs).”

“I wish I had time to meet all of them. I also wish that it wasn’t as dangerous as it is. I can’t stop my car in the middle of the road. I try my best and stick my hand out and give them hugs whenever I can. I always tell my fans that if you guys get a little organised, I will be able to meet you all but there is always a bit of a frenzy,” added Khan.

The 52-year-old actor owns a lavish house on Park Lane in London, where his daughter resides as she attends the private Sevenoaks School in Kent. He has also filmed numerous movies here and uses his luxurious home as his base when he films in the capital.

He said: “I am actually very used to filming my movies in London. I shot for Mohabbatein (2000), Ra.One (2011), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) and FAN (2015) here. I am familiar with the city. When I say city, I actually mean Mayfair, that is where I walk around (laughs).”

Earlier this year, Shah Rukh Khan was awarded the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos for his achievements as an artist. Cate Blanchett and Sir Elton John were there other two recipients of the award this year.

Alia Bhatt: Kalank is a lot of hard work

Alia Bhatt is riding high on the success of her recent release, Raazi, a spy drama based on true events but is currently neck-deep with work on her upcoming films, Kalank and Brahmastra.

Kalank is produced by Karan Johar and was incepted fifteen-years ago by Johar’s late father and will bring a mammoth of stars together on-screen. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonkashi Sinha, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapur.

The star cast is especially exciting for fans as Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit will reunite on-screen after a gap of 21 years. The actors were rumoured to be a pair back in the days but are happily married to their respective partners now.

On the other hand, Bhatt has been entertaining fans by sharing photos en route to the Kalank set almost every single day on her Instagram Stories. Giving us an exclusive update, she told BollyNewsUK: ‘The filming is going really well. I measure it by how hard I’ve got to work on the film. That’s usually a good way for me and it’s a lot of hard work. It’s a long way to go as it’s an epic drama and will take up much of my time,” added the 25-year-old actress.

She is also set to star in another epic Bollywood trilogy with Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan and is currently filming in Bulgaria. “I’ll be filming for Brahmastra now . My whole year will be taken up by these two films.”

The Highway actress is currently hitting headlines on Indian tabloids as she is rumoured to be dating Bollywood heart throb and her Brahmastra co-star, Ranbir Kapoor.

Kapoor was earlier in relationships with Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif. While Bollywood lovers on social media and forums are pointing out that this supposed relationship between Alia and Ranbir may be a publicity stunt for their upcoming film, only time will tell what’s really going on between these two.

Interview: #SacredGames “It was exhausting” – Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan is returning to our screens this summer, albeit this time through the first Hindi Netflix Original drama; Sacred Games. The series is based on the critically-acclaimed best-selling novel of the same name by author Vikram Chandra.

The series focuses on Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan), a seasoned and cynical Bombay police officer, summoned by an anonymous tip one morning, a voice which promises him an opportunity to capture the powerful Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), criminal overlord of the G-Company. As the stakes mount and Sartaj seeks knowledge of his prey, it becomes clear that the game the two players thought they were engaged in is in fact part of a much larger scenario, one that expands beyond their city.

On his recent holiday to the British capital, Saif Ali Khan spoke to Sunny Malik for BollyNewsUK where he opened up about the project and much more…

You’ve mixed business and pleasure whilst being in London …
It’s quite ideal actually. I like working in London. I shot an advertisement with Kareena and now I’m promoting my Netflix series too.

The first pisode of Sacred Games has some very graphic scenes. How did you feel being a part of such a project?
I don’t think it’s perditious in any way. The story telling is quite responsible. The series is a graphic platform, where you can be a part of edgy stories. It’s different to TV and movies, a bit how a graphic novel is different from a comic book. There is something unique about it. Sacred Games lends itself perfectly to an eight hour series. Everything in India is interconnected such as politics, cops, underworld and Bollywood. The nexus between these things is quite interesting. Sacred Games really etched out the characters and explained them with a backstory, just like the book, but in a way it feels like an eight-hour long movie.

Sacred Games UK Netflix

How was it like doing a TV series after being a part of so many feature films?
It was exhausting. We had very long working hours. We didn’t use a lot of lights and filmed at a lot of live locations. The plus side is that the scenes look amazing. You can’t set up that environment and replicate it otherwise. In films, you usually require a lot of set up to create a shot e.g. lighting and external equipment. For us, we were much more mobile with Sacred Games. We really explored Mumbai and  the new technology in film making really helped us in doing so.

Realistic content is thriving now. Do you enjoy that space?
Things do need to be realistic but Sacred Games is quite extraordinary really. Everything is kind of larger than life and there is a lot of drama. The idea is to make the drama believable. It’s not a reality show. It’s quite dull actually.

How was your experience of working with Nawazudin Siddique?
He brings a lot of dignity to the roles he plays, almost a regal bearing. It’s fascinating to watch him perform and he is one of the best actors we have. I can’t even put my finger on what exactly makes him so great but I suspect, it’s the grace and composure. But there are also so many other actors I’ve come in contact with throughout this series who have improved my own acting skills. I’m really happy to have seen all that talent as there is so much of it. What we see on screen in Bollywood is really the tip of the iceberg in that sense.

Saif Ali Khan in Sacred Games

The character is very different to what you’ve portrayed in the past or how you are as a person. How did you prepare for the role?
Absolutely, but the character has nothing to do with how I am personally. It was a little bit harder to get into the character but that’s the fun of being an actor. We have to try and understand someone else and create a reality out of it. It helps when the characters are strong and well-written. My director, Vikramaditya Motwane, also directed me very well. I really enjoyed being directed by him actually.

Netflix is becoming bigger by the day and some consider it as the platform which will kill cinemas. What’s your take?
I think, audiences will regardless of Netflix like to go to cinemas. I think, in an ideal universe you would do certain films for the big screen and certain type of content knowing that its best served on a streaming service. I’m just happy that as an actor I’m able to be a part of this world. I have noticed that people, in India, like going to the cinema. I think, directors need to be aware for what medium they are making their product. If you know that your movie or show is most likely going to be watched on a mobile phone, that would govern your directing style. If something is made for the big screen, directors need to film it for that purpose. We used to hear back in the days that close up shots are really important for TV. We just need to be aware of what is the best way to make content and for which medium.

Sacred Games launches globally today on Netflix.

Priyanka Chopra to pen down her memoir, ‘Unfinished’

Bollywood crossover star Priyanka Chopra is set to publish a collection of personal essays and stories in a forthcoming memoir titled ‘Unfinished’.

The memoir is set to hit book stores in the UK next year through Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin Random House UK. After appearing in more than forty Bollywood films, the 35-year-old shifted her base to the US a few years ago, to pursue a career in music, signing up with Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records.

She released a couple of songs featuring the likes of and Pitbull to mixed reaction in the US. Being a superstar back home, her songs made it to top of charts in India.

Although her singing career never really took off and debut album never saw the light of the day, she turned back to acting and became the first Indian actor to be signed as the lead for a US TV show; Quantico. She has since starred in Baywatch with Dwayne Johnson and will be seen in the upcoming drama A Kid Like Jake, co-starring Jim Parsons and Octavia Spencer.

Chopra is living the American dream as she quickly became a household name in the US winning the People’s Choice Award, featuring on TIME magazine’s 100 issue and gracing countless magazine covers in addition to slaying it with her fashion choices on every red carpet. Being a close friend to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, she created quite a splash with her stylish appearance at both, the Royal Wedding and private reception.

Speaking about ‘Unfinished’, Priyanka said: ‘The flavor of the book will be honest, funny, spirited, bold, and rebellious, just like me. I have always been a private person; I’ve never spoken about my feelings during my journey, but I am ready to do so now. I was raised to be fearless when it came to opinions, and I would like to tell my story in the hopes of inspiring people–especially women–to change the conversation, to shatter glass ceilings. Women are always told we can’t have everything. I want everything, and I believe anyone else can have it too. I’m proof of it.’

One of Priyanka’s fan was quick to point out that the title of the book had been revealed quite a while ago, during Chopra’s Vogue’s 73 Questions segment.

The actress has also been making headlines about her rumoured relationship with Nick Jonas, as the duo have been spotted on numerous occasions, including at Nick’s cousin’ wedding. The two are currently in India, where Priyanka is reportedly introducing Nick to her family and friends. We wonder if PC, as she is fondly called by her fans, will be spilling the beans about her liaison with the youngest Jonas Brother in the book.

We can’t wait!

Interview: Salman Khan talks about ‘Race 3’

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is celebrating Eid worldwide with fans through his newest blockbuster, Race 3, in cinemas from today.
Although the film is part of the Race franchise, it has been completely overhauled, courtesy Khan.
Like the last two films, the film is high on action, stunts and twists & turns along with a huge cast. Anil Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez are back too, but playing new characters. The newest addition to the franchise include Saqib Salim, Freddy Daruwala, Daisy Shah and Bobby Deol.
Another notable change, besides Saif Ali Khan not being in the film, is that directorial duo Abbas-Mustan have been replaced by Remo D’Souza, who has directed the hit ABCD franchise.

Speaking to Sunny Malik, the 52-year-old actor opened up about why the script needed to change, why a soundtrack of the film is so important and much more…

The Race franchise was associated with Saif Ali Khan and Abbas-Mustan. Since you’ve come on board, it has all changed. How did all come about?
I don’t think Abbas-Mustan were a part of the film by the time I came on board to play the lead character. Remo D’Souza was already supposed to direct the third film in the franchise when I was approached. I really liked the script and the genre but I wasn’t sure of it. I was just not convinced whether I can fit into the character. I’ve been a part of films like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Race is a completely different genre for me. We had several discussions and we changed it into a family film. Once, we made the necessary changes, we got our cast together.

4. Ingenious Choice of Actors
Why make the changes at all when the franchise was quite successful?
It’s a completely new film with new characters. I basically want children to come and watch the film. Anil Kapoor and Jacqueline were a part of the previous films but they are not playing the same characters anymore. The original movies were meant for an older audience. I wanted the film to appeal to all audiences including families.

How was your experience filming for Race 3?
I had a great time and really enjoyed being a part of it. I also got a chance to work with my friends Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. We filmed in Abu Dhabi and the local government was extremely supportive and helpful throughout our schedule. The most important part for me was that I liked the script. It’s basically become a Hum Aapke Hain Kaun where the family don’t get along for reasons that are correct in their head. The film has really funny moments but keeps you engrossed as well. It has action, drama, comedy, a lot of style and a big budget which is visible. We needed to make Race 3 bigger because Race and Race 2 were made on a large scale and we just had to make a product that is loved up by the audience. Jacqueline and Daisy worked really hard on the movie too and performed some incredible stunts.

1. Salman Khan's Eidi

Each song released is composed by a different music director. That is very similar as to how soundtracks are made in Hollywood.
I’ve used multiple music directors in the past too. Sometimes one music director manages to provide you with a complete soundtrack like Himesh Reshammiya did for Tere Naam. There have been instances with my films where Sajid-Wajid directed the music but we got Himesh to do one song, which went on to become a super hit. There are so many great music directors who’ve made some great songs. I like to keep them aside and use them in films where they best fit into. This way I have a couple of options. I believe that there should be about six songs in a film and all of them should be blockbuster tracks. It doesn’t make sense to me for example, if you have three mediocre songs in a film, that would mean 15 minutes where the audience is getting bored. The film starts dipping too. It’s bad for the final product which is why we have to be really careful with songs these days. Another example is Agneepath, starring Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra and the hit song Chikni Chameli in the film. The song featuring Katrina Kaif comes in towards the end of the film but it created more excitement for the audience at the cinema, building up to the climax. Even our promotional strategy is based on our soundtrack. We want people to like the songs and audiences tend to come and watch movies with good songs in it.

Race 3 is also the first in the franchise to be co-produced by the lead actor. Why is that important for you?
If you truly believe in a film, then why not produce it and work towards creating the best out of it? We are producing Loveratri with Ayyush Sharma and Warina Hussain, which was extensively filmed in London. Arjun and Parineeti’s dedication floors Dibakar

Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra have spent months finishing shooting of Yash Raj Film’s Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar – the most challenging shoot schedule of their career. From shooting in bone-chilling climatic conditions near the Indo-Nepal border, to Arjun’s gruelling three-month training with the cops, to Parineeti lying down in one spot for six hours in freezing cold on a mud floor without eating or drinking, to taking local trains and braving mobs, to living in tents while shooting at the border, to trekking hills – Arjun and Parineeti have showcased incredible commitment as actors to shoot this gritty, edgy, realistic thriller.

Arjun SAPF

“Arjun Kapoor can’t stop doing retakes even in conditions that are immensely challenging. We’re shooting a very intense scene in a deserted field in the middle of the night in freezing cold. The whole crew is in three layers. Arjun and Parineeti are dressed for a mild-September evening. It’s a stunt scene where they have to fall repeatedly on the cold hard ground. Arjun gives eighteen takes of falling on his back (which is injured anyway), while carrying Parineeti’ s weight on him all the time. In the confined backseat of a car, where he can’t even turn properly, he’s holding a gun, Parineeti, acting, emoting, while protecting Parineeti from physical injury where the scene is about him roughing Parineeti up! I challenge anyone to do this at 50 km/hour on the Delhi-Gurgaon highway and still give a stellar performance – like he did. We couldn’t have finished this film on schedule without his absolute focus and courage under fire. Very, very cool, and very generous to his co actors and the crew – while totally focussed on his craft,” says Dibakar.

These photographs capture the world of Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, an entertainer that is set to release on 3rd August 2018. Remote, and real, these locations form the backdrop of the story and highlight the thrill and intrigue. Arjun and Parineeti seamlessly blended into the scenes, looking and acting their parts to the T.

Parineeti Chopra

Dibakar adds, “We are in this small mud hut somewhere seven thousand feet up in December. Parineeti has been lying on the floor for about two hours in freezing cold as we set up shot after shot. The camera is looking down on her from six inches away. She is supposed to be unconscious. She came to the set not having had breakfast, not slept the night before, and not drunk any water. The makeup happens while she’s lying down and then she has to shoot lying still in the freezing cold for six hours. Then in the falling sunlight she has to scream out loud take after take till her voice goes completely.”

He adds, “Then she gives another shot where she is supposed to talk, and do a very dramatic scene while the unit is screaming to get the crowd out of the rapidly setting sun. Then she gives another shot, lying down in the night, eyes closed, unconscious – a fly settles down on her face, not a twitch. I get a long, still shot of an unconscious person with a fly on her face. Parineeti finishes the take and grins and says ‘makkhi ne acchi acting ki.’ Now, she has a two hour car ride back to the hotel that does not have any in room heating. This was a typical day for fifty days on the sets of Sandeep aur Pinky Faraar. Parineeti Chopra is world-class.”

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar reunites Arjun and Parineeti onscreen after their 2012 mega-hit Ishaqzaade.

Here’s why Aamir Khan is the most recognized face in the World!

Aamir KhanAamir Khan’s appeal in two major countries not only makes him the World’s Biggest Superstar, but also the most recognized face globally.

The recent past has been a testimony of the mass hysteria Aamir Khan and his work generates not just in India but the world over too. The actor is not just a Superstar in India but also China. With the population of 1.4 billion and 1.35 billion in China and India respectively, Aamir Khan is undoubtedly the biggest Superstar in the world.

The record-shattering earnings of his last 3 outings make for his films PK (2014), Dangal (2016) and Secret Superstar (2017), topping the list of Top 5 all-time worldwide grossing Indian Films.

While Dangal earned a whopping 1908 crores Indian Rupees in China while Secret Superstar raked in 874 crores Indian Rupees at the Chinese box office, his first release there opened to a thunderous response of 831 cr Indian Rupees. Aamir Khan emerged as the most watched non-Chinese actor in China, hence proving his stardom in the neighbouring nation.

Speaking about the tremendous love he is garnered with from the adjacent nation to India, Aamir Khan said, “My popularity in China happened by accident. Not many people know that it all started with 3 Idiots (2009), which reached Chinese homes through piracy. I guess they really related with the subject of the education system. Then they followed my work, including PK, and even the TV show Satyamev Jayate. When Dangal released in China, they already knew me and my work. Also, the reason why the films did such business in China is the sheer number of screens. In India, we have around 5,000 theatres, while in China there are 45,000. Even though there isn’t as much difference in the population of the two countries (approx 1.35 billion in India and 1.4 billion in China). I play a cameo in Secret Superstar, even then the film was released by the exhibitors in 11,000 theatres in China. Just imagine the scale”

When bestowed with the title of World’s Biggest Superstar, he says, “Yes, it’s a fact that since India and China have the maximum number of people, if you’re popular in these two countries, you already have close to three billion people liking you, which is half the world’s population. America has around 650 million people, and all of Europe put together has around 750 million people. There’s no comparison when it comes to India and China. On numbers, the West can’t beat us.”

Through his work Aamir Khan has brought India and China together, binding them with a common thread formed by Entertainment.  Over the years, Aamir Khan has been the only actor to have received the tremendous love and appreciation for his films in China.
