Viacom 18 Motion Pictures released Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor starrer Fighter in UK cinemas on 25th January 2024.
The first big Bollywood release of the year, directed by Pathaan filmmaker Sidharth Anand, had a four day opening weekend with £98,009 from 243 previews. In its opening weekend 26th-28th January, the film collected £590,146 from 252 locations, with a site average of £2,342. The film opened at No.7 on the official UK Box Office chart.
Fighter opened much lower than other films released in such a wide number of locations. While it was the second ever Indian title to debut at No.1 on the global Box Office chart, after Animal, the film also underperformed in its home country India.
Yash Raj Films‘ Dunki starring Shah Rukh Khan played in just 17 locations in its sixth weekend. The film collected only £4,097, with a site average of £241 over the weekend 26th-28th January. The cumulative gross of the film stands at £1,689,922, much lower than the collections of the other two Khan starrers last year Pathaan (£4,379,378 )and Jawan (£3,103,415).
Even previous Shah Rukh Khan starrers closed with higher collections such as Veer Zaara (2004 – £2,011,791), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006 – £2,061,251), Chennai Express (2013 – £2,181,425), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001 – £2,213,877), Dilwale (2015 – £2,350,250), and My Name Is Khan (2010 – £2,626,809).
Katrina Kaif starrer Merry Christmas also still played in 2 locations in its third weekend over 26th-28th January. It collected £1,198, with a site average of £599, bringing the total to £36,060.
