Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan created UK Box Office history in its third weekend becoming the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time here. Pathaan, also starring Shah Rukh Khan, remains the highest-grossing Indian title of all time. It released earlier this year in January raking up £4,380,848 – the first Indian film to ever cross the £3M and £4M mark. Pathaan dethroned Dhoom:3 as the highest-grosser, which remained in the spot since 2013.
In its third weekend Jawan has now taken the second spot overtaking Dhoom:3‘s lifetime collection of £2,710,319. All three films were released in UK cinemas by Yash Raj Films.
Over the weekend 22nd-24th September, Jawan collected £207,470, a -57% drop from its second weekend, from 171 locations, a change of -69 sites, with a site average of £1,213.
The total gross of the film now stands at an impressive £2,778,156. The Shah Rukh Khan produced blockbuster is creating records in India too but is unlikely to cross the Box Office figures of Pathaan or even reach the £4M mark.
Yash Raj Films also released Vicky Kaushal starrer The Great Indian Family over the weekend but in just 21 locations. The film has under-performed earning just £13,466 with a site average of £641. The film is likely to be pulled from cinemas after its second weekend.
Dharma Productions’ Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh is still raking in collections in its ninth weekend at the UK Box Office despite being available on Amazon Prime Video, free of charge for Prime members. The collections of the film did take a drop with only £12,795 from 41 locations, a -49% change in collections from its previous weekend.
The total collections of the film stand at £2,366,379, making the film the third-highest Indian grosser of the year and eight-highest of all-time, beating titles such as Dilwale and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
Other new Indian releases on 22nd September include: Sukhee – £11,973 from 38 locations, Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna – £8,925 from 29 locations, Kasargold – £91 from 2 locations.
