Karan Johar’s Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, released in UK cinemas on 28th July, opened well at the UK Box Office (28th-30th July).
Released by Moviegoers Entertainment for Viacom18 Studios, the film stars Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. The Bollywood rom-com released in 146 locations in its opening weekend, bringing in a good £370,882, with a high site average of £2,540.
The Box Office collections for each day during its first weekend are as follows: Friday – £101,939, Saturday – £126,690, Sunday – £142,253. Despite a very busy weekend for cinemas with Barbie, Oppenheimer and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the Karan Johar directorial made its debut at No.7 on the UK Box Office chart.
The opening weekend (3 days) of Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani surpassed the first week (7 days) Box Office gross of Gully Boy (£366k), Gangubai Kathiawadi (£345k), Sooryavanshi (£334k), 83 (£321k) and Dil Dhadakne Do (£312k).
In just four days, the film has grossed over£430k at the UK Box Office, collecting over £82k on its first Monday, a 80% hold from the weekend.
On the other hand, Warner Bros. UK’s Barbie is still dominating the chart with a total gross of £47,988,743 in its second weekend, and £13,226,848 coming in from the weekend 28th-30th July. Universal Pictures UK’s Oppenheimer is at No.2 with a total gross of £27,657,602, with the second weekend 28th-30th July bringing in £8,222,657.
Telugu title Bro, also opened on 28th July in 80 locations in the UK, collecting £107,494, with a good site average of £ 1,792. In Ireland, the film opened in 2 locations, earning £ 5,094, with a site average of £2,547. The UK collections of the film include £53,866 from 44 previews.
