When the trailer for Shashi Kiran Tikka’s Major came out, there was certainly a lot of buzz and intrigue surrounding it. And now that it is out, the film is a delightful watch and a film that is meant to be experienced.
Sandeep Unnikrishnan (Adivi Sesh) has also felt a strong attraction to the army uniform since he was a child. He dreams of becoming one himself. The film explores how Sandeep struggles to learn what it actually means being a soldier. Even as he contends with these questions a tragedy strikes the nation and Sandeep, who’s an NSG major now, must do his bit and put himself into action.
We’ve seen these types of films before: a strong lad who has a love for his country sacrifices everything to protect it and defeat the enemy; that’s how the narrative goes. But in this film, Shashi delves deeper into the man that makes the soldier and shows his humanity. We tend to forget that soldiers are people after all and he cleverly shows this by giving the audiences glimpse from boyhood to adulthood.
The man who plays Sandeep, Adivi Sesh, goes into the character knowing full well what might happen to him. Yet, keeps a sense of calm that some soldiers have throughout the film (a great thing as he knows he will become a soldier one day). His natural acting makes you forget that he is playing a soldier and reminds you that he is a person after all.
Major is full or action that keeps you on your toes and makes you root for Sandeep till the very end.
