South-Indian superstar Nagarjuna returned to UK cinemas with Bangarraju, released in UK cinemas on 14th January 2022. Distributed by Sailing Stones Productions, the film collected £16,319 in its opening weekend. An additional £2,071 came in from its release by Qualite Entertainments in Ireland.
The distributor chose to remove scenes of strong violence in order to obtain a 12A BBFC rating for the Telugu romantic fantasy drama. The film, also starring Ramya Krishnan (Baahubali) and Naga Chaitanya, released in India to much fanfare with an impressive opening weekend at the Indian box office.
Reliance Entertainment’ 83 took in £17,741 in its fourth weekend, bringing the total of all versions (Hindi, Telugu, Tamil) to £557,009.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures UK’ Hindi release Tadap, produced by Fox Star Studios starring Ahan Shetty, managed to collect £4,595 in its seventh weekend, bringing the total to £175,196.
Punjabi film Shooter, released by Rising Star Entertainment opened on 14th January, and only earned £3,686 in its opening weekend.
Coronavirus restrictions in India have currently delayed multiple new releases, especially Hindi films.
