Sanjay Gupta unhappy about the music in Hindi films

Sanjay

Director and producer Sanjay Gupta has spoken about the lack of good music in Indian films.

Gupta has always been vocal about his views, likes and dislikes and recently commented on the state of current soundtracks. “In the name of all the noise and item songs we have become scared of simple melodies. The same is happening to our film making. I do not absolve myself having been a part of the item song rat race, but swear never to go down that road ever again. Music must be music,’ said the Shootout at Wadala director.

“It is very disheartening whats happening today. Such big budgeted massively cast films are coming out and most of them have music that leaves so much to desire. I myself am very unhappy with my soundtrack of SAW as I feel its far from my best. My lack of total conviction in the music may well be the reason. But from here on, no more. Music is the most integral part of our film making process, its what makes us unique,” added Gupta.

‘Highway’ soundtrack released

Imtiaz Ali, Alia Bhatt and A R Rahman at a song recording for HighwayAfter creating waves on all platforms, the soundtrack of Imtiaz Ali’s new film Highway, composed by A R Rahman with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, is now available for digital download. The film, presented by Sajid Nadiadwala, stars Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda as they take the road across six states of India.

The Highway original motion picture soundtrack has nine tracks.

Patakha Guddi, sung by the Nooran sisters- Jyoti and Sultana, is a Punjabi song celebrating the wild spirit of Alia’s character Veera. The male version of Patakha Guddi has been sung by Rahman himself which moves from Sufi tones to a hard rock number.

Rahman also sings Maahi Ve which is a ballad picturised on Alia and Randeep as they go through this journey together.

Alia takes the microphone singing the lilting lullaby Sooha Saaha where she is joined by Zeb Bangash from the popular duo musicians Zeb and Haniya. Haniya plays the ukulele in the song.

Kahaan Hoon Main has been sung by Jonita Gandhi and is a soulful song of self-discovery.

Wanna Mash Up? written by Kash and Krissy and sung by Kash, Krissy and Suvi Suresh is a surprise – a groovy western dance number all in English with rap and reggae.

Implosive Silence is a musical piece which tries to capture the sounds in Alia’s character Veera’s head as she travels on the Highway. It has vocals by Jonita Gandhi.

The opening refrain of Tu Kuja is from the famous Persian phrase but thereafter it is a pure Hindi song inspired by the Amir Khusro song ‘Kirpa karo Maharaj‘ in praise of Moinuddin Chisti. The track is beautifully sung by Sunidhi Chauhan.

Heera sung by Shweta Pandit are traditional couplets by Sant Kabir.

According to Imtiaz, “We have played on melody and simplicity – trying to get right the balance between lyrics and music.”

“Really enjoyed working with Imtiaz and his team again …May God bless us with love and success!” adds the maestro A R Rahman.

Jay Sean Sings in Hindi!

Jay SeanMany will remember Jay Sean’s Hindi versions of ‘Ride it’ and ‘Stay’ that garnered much critical acclaim back in 2008.

This time, Jay Sean takes his current dance floor hit with DJ Pauly D, ‘Back to Love’ and spins the second verse and chorus into a smooth, meaningful Hindi translation with the help of well respected Classical singer Falu. The amazing Falu, who studied under the late legendary sarangi and vocal master Ustad Sultan Khan, has performed with A.R. Rahman, Wyclef Jean and Yo-Yo Ma to name a few!

Jonathan Perkins, part of Jay’s famed production team, Orange Factory Music (OFM) performed the piano and string arrangement.

‘Back to Love’ currently sits right outside Top 40 on American Radio and is climbing steadily. Jay Sean, The Cash Money Records star has also launched a full service entertainment company that is aimed at signing all forms of entertainers, not just singers.

His first signings include, Australian pranksters ‘The Janoskians’, X-Factor finalists ‘The Fair Ground’ and UK/African based producer duo ‘Da BeatFreaks’.

Additionally, Jay’s long-awaited 4th studio album ‘NEON’ is now officially due May 21st, with the first single ‘Where You Are’ impacting American radio and iTunes on March 19th.

Sean says of track: “This ‘Candlelight’ version is much like what I did for ‘Down’ back in 2009. I like taking my up-tempos and turning them into beautiful organic ballads. A great song truly reveals itself when sung just over a piano or guitar. The Hindi idea was something I wanted to give my fans. I know our roots are important to who we are and what we do. I always remember where I came from, so this is for those of you that remember those beginnings…I certainly do!”

RA.ONE Music Launch

An Epic music launch – Ra.One is here to stay!

The Ra.One music launch is definitely one that is not going to be forgotten very soon by the industry and audiences alike. No doubt that the music of Ra.One has been one of the most highly-anticipated albums of the year, however the sheer scale of grandeur and enigmatic presence on the stage of the stars has left everyone’s jaws dropping.

Shah Rukh Khan was at his usual charming best as he joked and said, “Superman ko apna naam Karan Johar rakhna chahiye.”  He grooved with Kareena Kapoor, his female co-star in the movie, to the latest chartbuster from the movie Chammak Challo, and while Kareena did look stunning in a blood-red sari, all eyes were eagerly looking out for the well-kept secret that is the character of Ra.One, which is being portrayed by Arjun Rampal..And quite an entry it was!

Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan’s closest friend in the industry, launched the music album while the film has been dedicated by SRK to the late Yash Johar.

Though we faced an unexpected delay in the start the event,it was probably because of the rains affecting certain portions of the set, built in an open area. And later, live glimpses of the event were shown, as promised, on the official YouTube channel. If the glimpses didn’t quite please you, you must watch the entire event to be aired on national televisionvery soon… the funny SRK on-liners & the dance performances will definitely impress you. And national broadcasting means that not only the media, but also the entire fans base can become a part of the celebrations.

YouTube views and comments for the event were at an all-time high, and Ra.One’s official Twitter handle even amassed 300+ followers in a matter of 2 hours.

The official release of Ra.One’s music album has truly been the perfect gift for all at the end of this festive season.  It truly was worth the wait!
