The director of Aashiqui 2, writer of 2 States and producer of Ek Villain have come together to bring audiences another love story, Half Girlfriend.
Balaji and Mohit Suri who struck gold with the 100 crore hit Ek Villain team up again, after their colossal hit, this time with celebrated author, Chetan Bhagat, who is riding high on 5 Point Someone and 2 States.
Based on the love that a non English-speaking Bihari boy Madhav has for an English-speaking girl Riya, the interestingly titled film talks of changing modern relationships.
“I am delighted to team up with one of the most talented modern directors, Mohit Suri and Ekta Kapoor, an iconic producer who has understood the Indian pulse like nobody else. Between our respective readers and audiences, we will cover most of India’s film watching population,” said Chetan Bhagat.
“Mohit and Ekta’s belief in the story, proven by their announcing the film before the book releases, only shows their strong conviction in the subject. Half Girlfriend is already one of the most awaited films and we will make sure we live up to the hype,” added the award-winning author.
“Spielberg said when he was a kid, there was no collaboration; it was him with a camera bossing his friends around. But as an adult, filmmaking is all about appreciating the talents of the people you surround yourself with and knowing you could never have made any of these films by yourself,” said Mohit Suri.
“I am delighted to be a part of what I believe is a truly creative collaboration. I am working with extremely passionate and driven professionals on an emotional & soulful story, which is among the best I’ve read in recent times,” added the Zeher director.
Speaking of the collaboration, Ekta Kapoor said, “We are extremely excited about this partnership, which brings some great creative minds and energy together. We will leave no stone unturned in making this gorgeous and charming tale of love the biggest and most talked about release of the year.”
Half Girlfriend will release in 2016.
