Ritesh Sidhwani talks about DON 2

Ritesh Sidhwani, the producer of Don 2 and founder of Excel Entertainment spoke to Bollywood reporter Sunny Malik while he was in Dubai to promote his upcoming action film with his cast Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra along with director Farhan Akhtar.

Don-The Chase begins (2006) was a commercial success and now after five years, the makers are releasing its sequel with Khan reprising his role as Don. Sidhwani explained how the highly anticipated sequel came about: “You have seen Don- The Chase begins, the character became iconic. People somehow realized that being mean and bad is cool. I think, Shah Rukh and Don give bad a new look and people wanted more of the character.

“We never thought about making a sequel but I think, when people saw the film, they appreciated it and they liked it. They wanted more from Don and we thought why not,if they have enjoyed it and loved it.We just thought, why not give it a shot and let’s give people what they want. I think, after Don- The Chase begins was released, a lot of people wrote to us with scripts of what their versions of the sequel would be like. It was quite an interesting thing,” said the 38-year-old producer.

While ‘Don 2- The King is back’ will release in cinemas in the UK on 21st December, the worldwide and India release date is the 23rd December 2011. Some major outdoor action sequences were filmed in Berlin and the film will premiere in the German capital but next year in February for the Berlin Film Festival 2012, where the cast and crew are expected to be present.

“We were planning to release all over the world including Germany on the same day. But unfortunately, because we got selected at the Berlinale, we have to release the dubbed version then as they wanted us to have the release later. I think its great that we are taking the film there. The German distributors decided on doing so,” said Ritesh.

DON 2 hits screens worldwide from Wednesday 21st, December 2011 in 2D and 3D with English Subtitles by Reliance Entertainment.
